Hello all,

I'm trying to setup a X.25 connection between a Cisco and a linux box
through a serial port (Async /dev/ttyS0)

I'have the following configuration :

Cisco --Cisco Cable DCE--> Linux BOX

So, for now what I'm looking for is that I can't manage to even have my
interface set up in X.25.

I'm trying using x25_asy, but I didn't find where to specify the serial
line to use.

Help! Help! Help!

Regards,
jF

First, you need to use slattach to set the line
discipline of the port, you're interested in, to X25.
After that you'll have a network interface like
x25asy0, which you should take up and set some routes.

In the kernel, LAPB is configured as DTE by default (
http://lxr.linux.no/source/net/lapb/lapb_iface.c#L135
and http://lxr.linux.no/source/include/net/lapb.h#L58
). If you need your box to act as DCE, you either need
to change this default behavior or enable the user to
be able to change it.

I'm not an expert on these issues, but the code looks
like for testing issues as noted at the top of the
source code. For example it does not implement CRC and
does only byte stuffıng, not bit stuffing. Do you
know that Cisco can talk to it?

Good luck,

Possibly there is some modified slattach to support
x25_asy, but I never could find it, and I did modified
it for my own purposes.

Download the slattach code and put below in a file
(say x25asy.c) in the lib folder. Add your
x25asy_hwtype struct to the hw.c file also, and
re-build slattach.

Mine version has a bit more code, to support DCE and
DTE operations, and below code is extracted from my
code and not compiled and not tested. FYI

--------------------------------
#include "config.h"

#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/ioctl.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <linux/if.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <ctype.h>
#include <errno.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <termios.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <linux/if_arp.h>
#include "lapb.h"
#include "support.h"
#include "pathnames.h"
#include "intl.h"
#define  EXTERN

/* Set the line discipline of a terminal line. */
static int
X25_set_disc(int fd, int disc)
{
  if (ioctl(fd, TIOCSETD, &disc) < 0) {
	fprintf(stderr, _("X25_set_disc(%d): %s\n"), disc,
strerror(errno));
	return(-errno);
  }
  return(0);
}

static int
do_x25(int fd)
{
  if (X25_set_disc(fd, N_X25) < 0) return(-1);
  return(0);
}

struct hwtype x25asy_hwtype = {
  "x25asy",	NULL, 		ARPHRD_X25,	0,
  NULL,		NULL,		NULL,		do_x25
};

Wow! Thanks for the code.

Other questions : what about xol and xot with linux ? I'm looking for some
config, but can't find anything.
