* [PATCH] i2c-mpc: generate START condition after STOP caused by read i2c_msg

This fixes MAL (arbitration lost) bug caused by illegal use of
RSTA (repeated START) after STOP condition generated after last byte
of reads.

Removed linux-scsi from the cc list.

I can recreate this issue with today's next tree. Nick let me know if

Could you elaborate a bit, please? Like an example when the original bug
occured (so I could reproduce easily) and how this patch actually solves
the problem.

The problem is that after the STOP condition, the following i2c_msg will be
attempted with a repeated START, which according to specification will
cause a MAL, which also happens.  My MPC8360ERM reads:

"Attempting a repeated START at the wrong time (or if the bus is owned
by another master), results in loss of arbitration."

Which I know read as it that we must own the I2C bus when using RSTA.

Hi,

I just tried upgrading my PegasosII to 2.6.29, and found that the Marvell
driver shows two Ethernet ports now, one with a MAC address ending in
...:de:ad:01 (which is the port that is not wired to the outside), and the
other one with 00:00:00:00:00:00.

I think some sort of Pegasos specific hack is needed.

For that specific problem othere is the patch that I submitted to this 
mailing list, which was merged early into 2.6.30.

I agree with the theory, but isn't the problem here that STOP is performed in
the middle of this transaction?
Remove the STOP and RSTA will work I think.

Furthermore, you might want to test with CONFIG_PPC_4K_PAGES and
CONFIG_PPC_16K_PAGES to see if it makes a difference compared to the
CONFIG_PPC_64K_PAGES you currently have.

I have actually tried with this set Interrupt mappings ... needed to
be done for mpc8313erdb Rev. 1.0 board dts, but still not able to
boot. It hangs at udhcpc pre started. please check the attached

Could you elaborate on the cache coherency issues in MPC5121
=46EC context? Especially how these issues are related to the driver
binary compatibility.=20

MPC5121 support was added to drivers/net/fs_enet. MPC52xx uses
drivers/net/fec_mpc52xx.c. Do you think that creating one universal
driver from these two is now possible? You said that it should be easy,
however you also said that cache coherency issues makes this imposible.

    It is not just about a system, it is a family of systems, that are
similar but not identical.
    And are used for an extremely wide variety of purposes.
    My personal focus is Pico cards as embedded systems. That is about
1/3 of our market.
    1/3 is clusters, and 1/3 is custom systems that are designed similar
to our cards but
    are produced in volume for the specific needs of the client. These

  breakpoints before a reboot.

  numbers.

- Introduced a new constant definition INSTRUCTION_LEN in reg.h
