Hello,

Here is the report:

1. Short description: Promise Fast Track SX6000 i2o driver problem.

2. Full description:

I've found problem with Fast Track SX6000 and linux ver 2.4.22 and 2.6.7 
i2o drivers. With drivers from vendor web site everything works fine (but 
there aren't i2o drivers).
There is a few version of firmware for this controler.

With old version of SX6000 firmware (Bios version 1.1.0 (Build 15), 
Firmware 77RM) driver's found controler but it's hanging durring 
initialisation.

With new version of firmware (Bios version 1.20.0.27) driver doesn't 
recognise hardware at all. The problem is: Promise's changed PCI_CLASS 
identifier from 0x0e00 (I2O controler) to 0x0104 (RAID bus controller). 
I've tried simply change PCI_CLASS number in source and recompile it but 
it doesn't work good (driver recognised hardware but hung whole machine!).

Hardware is working fine because I've instaled win2k :-( on this machine 
and everthing seems to be working.

8. Other notes

I can offer a root terminal access (ssh) to this machine if it could be 
usefull. There are no production services on this machine (yet until I

It will pause during initialization with older firmware and it tends to
spew a few messages because Promise interpretation of the I2O spec is

the newer firmware interface and since it was way slower than the 3ware

The Promise driver (distributed via src) is common and is working for both 
version of firmware.

So, as I've understood: there will be no working i2o drivers for SX6000 at 
least to time when Promise publicize documentation to their hardware. 
:-( Am I right?

As I understand it the new firmware isn't I2O so I2O would be the wrong
driver anyway. If Promise own source code drivers support it then that
is at least as good as documentation 8). Are promise own drivers for the
sx6000 GPL or not ?

If Promise has changed their policy and went off from i2o "standard" it's 
the good idea, but unfortunatelly I'm c/c++ newbie :-(. I can offer 
you access to my test machine with SX6000 installed. I even have to two 
SX 6000 so you want you can test new and old version of firmware in the 
same time.

Can you forward me their current driver. I'm busy with other stuff for
at least the next week, and then have to see about getting the IDE stuff
sorted further with Bartlomiej but I'll take a look. I've got the
original Supertrak 100 so between us we can test all three.

Have you managed to include Fast Track SX6000 into source kernel?
I've just doiwnloaded 2.6.9 source and I can't find it.

Reply: there will be no support to SX6000 in standard 2.6 kernel is BAD
