Hi Linus.
First round of small kbuild fixes (it's monday here in 15 minutes).
o Rename prepare to archprepare to get dependency order correct
o fix silentoldconfig with make O=
o rename mips/kernel/offset.c to asm-offsets.c
Can be pulled from:
www.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sam/kbuild.git
I've started suing the alternate format as you described.
So I cannot pull from that respository myself.

I hope you know a few smart tricks.

Subject: [PATCH 1/3] kbuild: rename prepare to archprepare to fix dependency chain
When introducing the generic asm-offsets.h support the dependency
chain for the prepare targets was changed. All build scripts expecting
include/asm/asm-offsets.h to be made when using the prepare target would broke.
With the limited number of prepare targets left in arch Makefiles
the trivial solution was to introduce a new arch specific target: archprepare
The dependency chain looks like this now:
prepare
|
+--> prepare0
|
+--> archprepare
|
+--> scripts_basic
+--> prepare1
|
+---> prepare2
|
+--> prepare3
So prepare 3 is processed before prepare2 etc.
This guaantees that the asm symlink, version.h, scripts_basic
are all updated before archprepare is processed.
prepare0 which build the asm-offsets.h file will need the
actions performed by archprepare.
The head target is now named prepare, because users scripts will most
likely use that target, but prepare-all has been kept for compatibility.

If you first do a "git fetch linus" to fetch all the objects in my
archive, then you should be able to pull from the cleaned-up archive fine,
simply because that archive is missing only bits that you already had
locally (and thus wouldn't fetch anyway).

Btw, it works for me, so your archive looks ok.
Your diffstat is broken, though:

Notice how "Makefile" shows up twice, because you didn't use "-p1" to
diffstat (or just use "git-apply --stat", which should get it right).

The real stats are:
12 files changed, 345 insertions(+), 337 deletions(-)
according to git, thanks to that.
