Size difference in Kernel Modules

Size difference in Kernel Modules

I have compiled kernel 2.6.35 but there is huge difference in size
between 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 (fedora core 14 ) and  compiled one
I am using same configuration file as fc14 uses

following details show difference in size

/lib/modules/2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686/kernel/drivers/video/backlight/lcd.ko
8.0K /lib/modules/2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686/kernel/drivers/video/backlight/lcd.ko

/lib/modules/2.6.35/kernel/drivers/video/backlight/lcd.ko
160K /lib/modules/2.6.35/kernel/drivers/video/backlight/lcd.ko
[Anil@localhost linux-2.6.35]$


62M /lib/modules/2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686/

587M /lib/modules/2.6.35/

Usually when this happens to me it is because debugging symbols are included 
in the build. Are you sure the configuration file has them disabled? On Ubuntu, 
for instance, the configuration file which is described as the same used by 
kernel packagers actually has debugging enabled.
