I would be having a duration of six months to work on the project. Could you please suggest me some good project ideas that would be helpful to me as well as linux. I am interested in parallel computing, data structures , operating system. I am well versed in C/C++. I think there might be projects which need to be done, I would like to work on them. -- Thanks and Regards , Gaurav ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 3+ messages in thread

Your interest in working on the kernel is welcome, but, sadly, you are unlikely to get much help with this particular approach. Kernel developers tend to be busy, they have little time to spend hand-holding well-meaning students with vague ideas of doing a kernel project. Experience shows that much better results happen when developers join our community with a specific project that they are interested in working on. My advice to you would be to spend some time studying the working of the kernel, perhaps fixing a few bugs while you are at it. Eventually you will come across something that does not work as well as you think it should; at that point, perhaps, you will be able to conceive of a specific project to make things better. Come back with specific ideas - and, preferably, some code - and you will have a much better chance of getting some attention from the development community. Thanks, jon ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 3+ messages in thread

Oh I see, yeah I understand, Thanks a lot again for guiding me, I will see for bugs this would really help me in increasing my understanding of kernel, and of course try to come up with a good idea myself. > > > Thanks, > > jon > -- Thanks and Regards , Gaurav -- Thanks and Regards , Gaurav ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 3+ messages in thread
