Question on USB mouse & laptop.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop.  When I plug in my USB keyboard, I can use both
it and the built-in keyboard.  However, it boots up with the USB mouse in,
I can only use the USB mouse, not the built-in scratch-pad mouse.
(Other than that, the USB stuff seems to work great!)

Is this expected behaviour?
If not, I'll send in a detailed report on my system...

you need to run gpm -M (for gpm console dual mouse support

for xf86 4.x you need to make sure there are two mouse setups...

something like:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier  "Mouse0"
        Driver      "mouse"
        Option      "Device" "/dev/mouse"
        Option      "Protocol" "PS/2"
        Option      "Emulate3Buttons" "off"
        Option      "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
To add another mouse just copy the above section and modify it, so that it 
reads:
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier  "Mouse1"
        Driver      "mouse"
        Option      "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option      "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
        Option      "Emulate3Buttons" "off"
        Option      "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
 
then tweak the server layout section for the second mouse...

Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier "XFree86 Configured"
        Screen      0  "Screen0" 0 0
        InputDevice    "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
        InputDevice    "Mouse1" "AlwaysCore"
        InputDevice    "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection
