2.6.31, for which there are no fixes in the mainline I know of.  If any of them
have been fixed already, please let me know.

If you know of any other unresolved regressions introduced between 2.6.30

So that just means the driver is broken. Please run

	iwconfig wlan0 power off

to fix it then. And the patch below will disable it by default since
it's broken.

I applied the patch from johannes and it ended my issues atleast. I ran my machine for approx
2 hours without seeing the disconnect issue (which I usually saw after 15-25min). Cant be 100% of course
but so far so good.

I agree with Justin that we could wait until he gets a chance to test it. It should be accepted
after initial merge (and stable trees) after that I think. Rafael thoughts?

Also, we should notify the atheros people so they could start fixing the driver (in a perfect world).

I can probably test it out, main problem
is where I'm headed internet connection might
not be strong enough to run any kind of media
(hotel connections are only strong enough to retrieve e-mails
streaming music/movies can be a bit much). luckily
I'm away only for a few days.

That's completely bogus. That commit is not in 2.6.31. It was merged in the
2.6.32 merge window.

So the problem exists with 2.6.31 already which excludes the above
commit.

The above commit indeed caused problems on 64bit efi systems in
2.6.32-rc. The fix was merged between 32-rc5 and 32-rc6.

The bisect was done with:

Yes, i did boot every single on. We had this problem where it was the 
makefile when i did a similar bisect with Huang Ying, and it is what 
prompted me to expand the bisect parameters to v2.6.32. I believe the 
email about that is in the  mailing list still, and im more than happy 
to do any other tests you can think of to test and isolate this bug as 
it currently causes a significant issue.

Sure, but I hope we agree that it does not make much sense to search
2.6.31..now when we already know that 2.6.31 is not booting and the
change which causes the problem is between 2.6.30 and 2.6.31.

But then how reliable is your bisect result? The effect of the patch in
question would've been completely disabled by this line.

I dont know, I will test this as soon as possible. I might change the 
bisect parameters a bit, but really im quite new to all this. It may 
also be a possibility it is gen-patches breaking it as i reported 
2.6.30-gentoo was the broken kernel. Either way, the fact remains that 
on 2.6.31 and higher vanilla it is broken.

 Oh i have no issues agreeing with you, but its really confusing me, and 
i of course may have made an error in what i reported. I am after all 
only human, and i might have made a mistake, and this is the first time 
i have ever submitted a bug, let alone found one like this. The end 
product is that 2.6.32 doesn't boot, but maybe the last working version 
was not 2.6.30-rc8, maybe it was a 2.6.31 kernel. I might redo the 
bisect and try this out again, as i'm quite intent on finding the source 
of this. I will also see if i can get my hands on another x86_64 linux 
install with efi to test it on a different machine to see if it is 
hardware specific to my computer. For the record i am running a late 
2009 macbook pro gen 5 rev 3, efi version 1.7 with refit and elilo.

Status of this bug in mainline didn't change. However, there are
patches to fix this issue:

  1. http://marc.info/?l=e1000-devel&m=125659409119946&w=2

Works -- interface is brought up properly.  However, kernel warns
about two allocation failures (and succeeds in thrid attempt).

Patches to make warnings appear every 10th failure have been
presented.  What this basically means for me is that failure message
would pop up every 5th suspend-resume cycle.

(Patch has a typo that needs fixing: s/struct cbs/struct cb/)

Works without any warnings.  Sadly, patch is far more intrusive.

Its quite possible I guess. I will do an bisect and see if I can

Now Legacy RTC code instead of EFI get/set_wallclock is used on x86_64.
Your test shows that before this patch, kernel can boot on your system,
but can not boot after that?

You've confirmed that apply commit 772be899b "x86: Make EFI RTC function depend
on 32bit again" right after 7bd867dfb "x86: Move get/set_wallclock to 
x86_platform_ops" will get a bootable kernel.

Then, one debug method may be use "git-rebase -i" to move commit 772be899b right after 
7bd867dfb, and do the bisect from there on.

Sorry for not answering before, I've been running 2.6.31 patched for all
this time and the results are a bit dissapointing...

The first run was for almost a month and ended up with half a hang, I could
read on the console that there had been an error on one of the disks, dma
error, the keyboard was working, getty seemed to work but then login didn't
show up when entering the username even though the disks led was flashing
when I operated the console entering usernames and all that. This hang was
not like the hangs I had before, don't know if it was due to the patch and
the unknown operation arriving to the IDE disk, but the message that the
patch was supposed to display was not displayed at all.

The second run is current run I believe, currently it has an uptime of 18
days and not problem was showed over this time.

So... I'm afraid I'm not able to reproduce this and maybe the whole problem
is hardware related, even though the machine had been running with 2.6.30 in
a stable way, it is an old machine, so maybe it is not as healthy as I
believed, and even though memtest doesn't show any errors there could be
some dma problems or other weird things happening around :-(

So... I'd say you can close the bug and if I happen to find it again... I'll
report it again.

This seems to stop efi booting as well on x86_64. I have also been able 
to recently test this on a gen 4 macbook pro as well as my own gen 5 to 
make sure it is not an issue specific to this model.
