Ok then, let's go ahead, but
I vote for config exclusion as a first step,
so if anybody will run into problems, will use old mature stuff until e100 get fixed.
Due to rollback the removed driver - back and forth in killing/resurrecting stuff is not a good example to follow within the kernel.
Generally speaking, e100 should replace eepro*, but I can see no reason for rush in doing that one-step.

the dual license text needs a bit of clarification I suspect to make
explicit that the "or BSD" part only applies when used entirely outside
the linux kernel. (that already is the case, just it's not explicit.
Making that explicit would be good).

Assuming you are happy with the state of the patches, is there anyway
for me to know if they will become a part of the next release?
Usually submitted/reviewed patches to netdev does not not always
guarantee they will be acccepted/signed-off.

Known problem, fixed by Yoshifuji in current GIT. /proc/net/if_net6's
output format got mistakedly changed, and this confused named and
ifconfig, among other things.

Just moved my firewall/gateway from 2.6.15 to 2.6.16-rc1, and had a
couple IPv6-related problems really bite me.
1) radvd runs at 100% CPU (CentOS 4 userland, 2.6.15 worked fine). I
had to kill it.

The following patch implements a kernel mode connection management agent
over Infiniband that connects based on IP addresses.
The agent defines a generic RDMA connection abstraction to support clients
wanting to connect over different RDMA devices.
It also handles RDMA device hotplug events on behalf of clients.

prism2 usb is even worse - the urb is build of some control structure, the
802.11 3 address header, a 802.3 header and the 802.11 data part. Some bits
in the control structure decide whether the 802.11 or the 802.3 header is
used to create the frame sent to the air.
Fortunately, a driver should be able to specify it's additional memory need at
the front of the frame via hard_header_len. Some drivers will need to do some
ugly memmove()s at the packet begin then.

.. and it gets even worse as soon as we start encrypting packets. I think we
should start using the netdev wiki at http://linux-net.osdl.org/ to collect
information. For this part of the discussion, we need to know what transmit
frame formats different hardware needs.
I'll ask Stephen Hemminger to put a link for wireless development on the index
page and will start with frame information for prism2 and other hardware I
have and understand good enough.

The following set of patches defines a connection abstraction for Infiniband and
other RDMA devices, and serves several purposes:
* It implements a connection protocol over Infiniband based on IP addressing.
This greatly simplifies clients wishing to establish connections over
Infiniband.
* It defines a connection abstraction that works over multiple RDMA devices.
The submitted implementation targets Infiniband, but has been tested over other
RDMA devices as well.
* It handles RDMA device insertion and removal on behalf of its clients.
The changes have been broken into 5 separate patches. The basic purpose of each
patch is:
1. Provide common handling for marshalling data between userspace clients and
kernel mode Infiniband drivers.
2. Extend the Infiniband CM to include private data comparisons as part of its
connection request matching process.
3. Provide an address translation service that maps IP addresses to Infiniband
addresses (GIDs). This patch touches outside of the Infiniband core, so I'm
including the netdev mailing list.
4. Implement the kernel mode RDMA connection management agent.
5. Implement the userspace RDMA connection management agent kernel support
module.

I know, I have a fix from Yoshifuji in my tree and I'll
make sure Linus gets it.

proc/net/if_inet6 format's IPv6 addresses and thus breaks ifconfig's
ability to display IPv6 addresses. I'm not sure if this is
acceptable breakage of a userspace app or not.

We don't of any problems reported against e100 that have not been
talked about in this thread (in old ARCH types). I think the eepro100
driver should be removed from the config "just in case" but we are in
full support of the e100 driver and if somebody says that it's not
working on one of the different ARCHs we are willing to work with them
to get it fixed. The problem is that we don't have all these
different ARCH systems around to test against.
Another thing is that removal of the driver (or disabling the config)
will hopefully force the issue in that people with these ARCHs will
use the e100 and if they have problems we can get them fixed in the
e100 driver. At this point nobody seems to be able to define a "real"
problem other than talking about it.

Well, nobody forces you to allocate dev->priv together with the net_device,
you can set and change this pointer yourself. So I don't see a problem here.
