I'm not a kernel hacker :-) and mabye I'm wrong but why not auto select
ACX_{PCI,USB} ?

Is there any way to move this into a Kconfig file?  That seems nicer
than having #ifdefs in source code to check for a configuration error.

This means ct->nat.info.bysource was already removed from the list,
which can only happen if the conntrack entry is destroyed twice.

I can't find how this could have happened, please enable
CONFIG_NETFILTER_DEBUG, the DPRINTK defines in
ip_conntrack_{standalone,core,netlink}.c and ip_nat_{core,standalone}.c
and logging of invalid packets ("echo 255 >
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_log_invalid"). I hope this
will give some clues ..

CRYPTO is a helper variable, and to make it easier for users, it should 
therefore select'ed and not be listed in the dependencies.

drivers/net/wireless/airo.c requires CONFIG_CRYPTO for compilations.

Therefore, AIRO_CS also has to CRYPTO.

Additionally, this patch removes the #ifdef's for the non-compiling 
CRYPTO=n case from drivers/net/wireless/airo.c.

It does work now. How?

I enabled  "Use PIO instead of MMIO". Everything started to work.
I disabled "Use PIO instead of MMIO" and enabled "Use older RX-reset 
method".
Everything still fine.

The crazy thing is that it does work now even with both of the options 
disabled.
It does work even after complete power removal for several hours.

I didn't want to imply that you are lying, but merely point out that
something was going on on your system that you didn't be aware of.

Sorry if that was to be misunderstood.

Without knowing what actually happened at the time you encountered the
bug, it is hard for me to try and reproduce / understand it.

being essentially called a liar is very fair.

I've no reason to not report exactly what I observed and noted and what I did or 
didn't do before noting it, and while you may argue that it doesn't match with 
what you expect, that doesn't mean that I'm making stuff up.  More likely it 
means that neither you or I understand quite what was happening at the time.

It's now four days later.  I wrote the email a few minutes after noting the 
oops, so if I was fiddling with iptables at the time I'm sure I would have said 
so.  I mean, why wouldn't I?

I'll try to reproduce it, but as I've no idea what triggered it in the first 
place it may be a bit tricky.

Noting that a reboot of the box does not even load the ip_conntrack_netlink 
module, which if I was indeed messing with it, I would have probably had to 
force the module to load.  I think I'd know if I was doing that.........

we have that structure as part of an IP_CT_DIR_MAX array, therefore it's
twice in every conntrack, and thus we save 8 bytes ;)

I think it is very much required to have such a flag.  (we can actually
add it to the nfnetlink_log flags).  It really depends on your setup.
Some people really really want to have logging reliable, others fear
that they might easily be DoS'ed, if logging has higher priority than
packet forwarding.

If it's optional (and the default is unreliable), then I think it's a

In related news, the box has been running with a 2.6.16-rc1-git4 based
kernel for 8 hours now without any errors. First kernel+driver version
that does that (apart from vendor-sk98lin on a kernel without slab
debugging ;) ;) ;) ).

Maybe that chip rev is no good.

BTW, I have a patch I wanted to submit on top of this, which changes the
*LOG targets to do "reliable" logging, which means if we encounter any
errors during logging (for example from netlink), the packet will be
dropped. This makes as sure as possible that no connections will be
silently accepted. Its a slight change of user-visible behaviour, but
since it only affects corner-cases I think it should be OK. I could add
some flags to retain the current behaviour, but I think its not worth
it. For ULOG its only possible to do this without queueing, so if
qthreshold > 1 we will keep the old behaviour, LOG can't fail anyway.

Any objections?

By using a sequence number for every logged netfilter event, we can
determine from userspace whether logging information was lots somewhere
downstream.

The user has a choice of either having per-instance local sequence
counters, or using a global sequence counter, or both.
