New received frames will trigger the rx DMA to poll the DMA descriptors,
so there is no need to tell the h/w to poll. We also want to enable
dropping frames from the fifo when there is no buffer.

The standard readl/writel accessors involve a spinlock and cache sync
operation on ARM platforms with an outer cache. Only DMA triggering
accesses need this, so use the raw variants instead in the critical paths.
The relaxed variants would be more appropriate, but don't exist on all
arches.

The interrupts have already been cleared, so we don't need to clear them
again. Also, we could miss interrupts if they are cleared, but we don't
process the packet.

On gcc 4.7, we will get alignment traps in the ip stack if we don't align
the ip headers on receive. The h/w can support this, so use ip aligned
allocations.
Cut down the unnecessary padding on the allocation. The buffer can start on
any byte alignment, but the size including the begining offset must be 8
byte aligned. So the h/w buffer size must include the NET_IP_ALIGN offset.
Thanks to Eric Dumazet for the initial patch highlighting the padding issues.

Yeah. I wasn't sure about BUS() either. Did you notice the other cases
of BUG_ON() in this path in iwl_rx_allocate()? I would think those need
fixing as well.

Well, yes, we could convert them, but we can leave them as they are
because these are assertions that the DMA mapping API guarantees. If
this breaks, it's a bug in the DMA mapping code.
In contrast, if it fails to map, it's not a bug in the code, it's just
running out of memory or IO space or whatever.

kernel 3.6 to 3.6.5 (3.5 is working fine)
I have a "sender" sample app that does:
- socket(dgram)
- setsockopt mcast ttl 8
- setsockopt mcast loopback
- sendto() to 239.0.0.x
and a "receiver" sample app:
- socket(dgram)
- bind(239.0.0.x)
- add membership (239.0.0.x)
- loop on recv()
My setup: no default route, "ip route add 239.0.0.0/8 dev eth0", sender
& receiver running on same host.
If I first start one sender app (on 239.0.0.1), and after a receiver app
on 239.0.0.1 => no problem
If I first start two or more sender apps (239.0.0.1/239.0.0.2/...), then
assuming I don't start as many matching receivers, receivers sometimes
get all data or nothing at all.
After digging in __mkroute_output(), I found that unless I'm using a
default route (fi != NULL), rtable is cached and shared by all senders
(even those with different mcast addresses)
Since ip_check_mc_rcu() returns different results depending on whether
fl->daddr is present in device mc_list or not, I don't think we can
cache this.
The random working/not working effect I get is because add_membership
flushes the rt_cache, so depending on which sender does sendto() first
after flush, the cached entry will either use ip_mc_output() or
ip_output().

But these belong in the libc headers anyways.
If we haven't provided them for so long, there's no real value of
adding them now.

But how can a daemon know which default values are used? If it wants to add a
route with metric = default + x, it should first add it with metric = 0, check
the result and then change the metric.

What do we do on the ipv4 side and how do daemons cope in that situation?

while adding the ipv6 address to interface ,
ifconfig eth0 add 2001:8800:10fb:4444::ae/64
i am seeing the route addition automatically
route -n -A inet6 shows that one of the route from the above added address.
how to disable the automatic route addition?
or is it something that ipv6 protocol itself does?
