This adds support for the barebox bootloader (and tools) to oe-core.
In order to have proper testing, this extends oe-selftest to allow
basic testing of bootloaders. While at it, cover both barebox and u-boot.
v5:
* move common recipe data into barebox-common.inc
* Add proper DESCRIPTION
Enrico Jorns (5):
barebox: set default BAREBOX_CONFIG for qemu machines
oeqa/utils/qemurunner: support ignoring vt100 escape sequences
oeqa: support passing custom boot patterns to runqemu
oeqa/selftest/cases: add basic u-boot test
oeqa/selftest/cases: add basic barebox tests
Marco Felsch (2):
barebox: add initial support
barebox-tools: add initial barebox tools support

This adds the support for the barebox bootloader to oe-core. The recipe
is inspired by meta-ptx [1] but is a major rework of the one found there.
Barebox comes with a wide range of supported architectures and follows
the concepts of Linux in various aspects like the driver model, the
shell, or the virtual file system.
This not only eases porting Linux drivers but also makes barebox a
developer-friendly and feature-rich bootloader alternative [2].

Add initial support to build the barebox tools for the host and the
target.
Some of the tools are generic barebox utilities (like 'bareboximd' for
image meta data inspection or 'bareboxenv' for accessing the barebox
environment) some are SoC family-specific specific utilities (like
'imx-usb-loader' or 'omap3-usb-loader').

These are set in the barebox recipe rather in the corresponding machines
(where they would belong otherwise) to keep the impact of barebox to
oe-core minimal for now.
"multi_v7_defconfig" is used for qemuarm since this is the default
barebox armv7 config that just enables all supported platforms.
"multi_v8_defconfig" is used for qemuarm64 sine this is the default
barebox armv8 config that just enables all supported platforms.
"efi_defconfig" is used for qemux86-64 which is the primary platform
where barebox will not be the first stage bootloader but an EFI payload.
Since these changes make barebox a provider for virtual/bootloader,
explicitly default to u-boot in the corresponding MACHINE configs to not
unnecessarily surprise users.

If we talk to terminals that like colors, we need to ignore the vt100
escape sequences when matching strings.
An unprocessed barebox console prompt would e.g. look like:
ESC[1;32mbarebox@ESC[1;36mARM QEMU virt64:/ESC[0m
where we cannot match for something like "barebox@ARM QEMU virt64:/".
The same applies to colored Linux terminal output of course.
The "\x1b\[" from the regex catches the standard start of ANSI escape
sequence while the rest catches the actual command code executed.

This allows defining non-standard patterns from QEMU tests just as they
are already supported by the testimage.bbclass.
Will allow testing non-Linux shells in QEMU, too (e.g. a U-Boot shell or
another bootloader shell).

Just noted in other tests against actual BSPs that this check is not yet adapted to UNPACKDIR.

The checksum should be in barebox-common.inc, so it's not repeated in
barebox-tools.
Is there a reason to set S and B explicitly? They look like defaults to me.
Also, is there a need to keep barebox.inc separate? Why not merge that
into barebox.bb?

I kept it in the version-specific .bb file since this is the only information that would necessarily
change when bumping the PV.

S is the default actually (${BPN}-${PV}). I can omit that.
B defaults to S in bitbake.conf and is only changed by build tool-specific classes.

Personally, I find it easier to diff recipes when they don't move with every version bump.
Splitting .inc and .bb up is one way to achieve this.
I see a notable number of recipes having a .inc that is required by only a single .bb.
Is there any generic rule when to (not) use a .inc file?
For barebox specifically, it makes the creation of recipes for a custom barebox easier since one can
decide to either .bbappend the existing recipe or just create a new .bb and only require the .inc.
Regards, Enrico

Just noticed that its maybe better to keep the explicit ${S} since it allows barebox recipes to have
other names than just "barebox". Like "linux" is sometimes named "linux-yocto", "linux-raspberrypi",
etc.

Yes, but barebox and barebox-tools would have to be upgraded in
lockstep, and sharing the checksum between them would ensure it
actually happens. Also, the resulting diff becomes shorter.

These recipes are a relic from times when oe-core had multiple
versions of the same things. Over time, we merge the .inc into .bb, so
there's less of those now.
I prefer having everything in a single .bb, because splitting
functionality between multiple files hurts readability a lot.
Including .inc from a different layer is an anti-pattern, and I'd be
strongly against doing that.

Not necessarily, despite it probably makes sense.

By one line, but yes.

Ok.

But a commonly used one in the context of bootloaders I guess:
https://github.com/search?q=%22require+recipes-bsp%2Fu-boot%2Fu-boot.inc%22&type=code
What are the better options here?
Inheriting the .bb? Making a .bbclass?

Sadly yes. The reason I don't like it is that changing anything in
u-boot.inc in oe-core may break multiple BSP layers, and angry people
will come shouting at the person who made the change, even though that
file is actually private to the original recipe.

Making a .bbclass, putting stuff like COMPATIBLE_MACHINE into a
.bbappend, or a hard recipe fork that doesn't attempt to reuse the
.inc from another layer.

For me, a bbclass sounds most appropriate here.
For a bootloader recipe it is more likely that you will need custom SRC_URI, COMPATIBLE_MACHINE, etc
than with other conventional recipes. And the need to have a hard copy of the recipe everywhere will
somehow make the oe-core mainlining absurd.
v6 incoming.
Thanks for your input!
