Hi Miguel,
This is a small one, various cleanups and small improvements with no
major changes to users of pin-init.
I summarized the changes in the my sync series [1]:

Hi Miguel,
A gentle nudge about this PR.

No worries, it isn't forgotten.
This one (and Andreas' one) had newer bases so they count as back
merges, thus I decided to put them at the top of my PR to avoid
affecting the branch until then.
(By the way, for the future, please try to pick a base at most as
recent as the upstream one, i.e. `rust-next`, so that they don't count
as back merges -- we should avoid those wherever possible.).
Thanks for the ping!
Cheers,
Miguel

Merged into `rust-next` -- thanks!
As discussed offline, this counts as a back merge, so let's avoid it
in the future unless justified. This time around, I merged Andreas'
first (which was also a back merge, with an even newer base) and
provided context there, so that this one would look like a "normal"
one.
Cheers,
Miguel
