Hi Yibo,
We haven't started implementation yet. We plan to start implementing CSI plugin for Kubernetes after upcoming release (end of this month). We are happy that you look opportunities to collaborate! Please let me know how do you see that collaboration :)

Regards,
Maciek

Subject: [SPDK] About SPDK + Kubernetes

Hello,

This is Yibo Cai from Arm. We are interested in leveraging SPDK to improve storage performance in Container Cloud.
At SPDK Beijing summit, we were glad to hear that Intel is developing similar features such as SPDK CSI in Kubernetes. We would like to know current status of the project and seek for possible collaboration opportunities. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Yibo

Hi Maciek,

Thanks for quick response.

We did some investigations about SPDK + Kubernetes recently. Our basic idea is to implement CSI plugin to enable SPDK storage in Kubernetes, and to develop a ROOK operator for SPDK + NVMe-oF cluster management.
Actually, we still have some issues not addressed. Such as whether to support persistent storage or only ephemeral storage, how to create and export SPDK based persistent volumes on demand, ....

Nice to hear your team will start the implementation soon. I guess it will be an open source project, so the collaboration follows normal open source way: code contributing, testings, reviewing, tech discussion, etc.

Yibo

Hi Yibo,

You are 100% correct wrt open collaboration. If you're not familiar with the SPDK community communications channels you can read about them here https://spdk.io/community/

Maciek, I assume you'll be doing a Trello board for this? This is an exciting activity and I'm guessing lots of folks will be interested in the high level design, backlog items, etc.

Thx
Paul

Hi Paul, Maciek,

It will be great to have a Trello board for this project! Thanks.
