Please try this patch against ALSA CVS.  It should cause the emu10k1
driver to claim this device.

I have no idea what will happen, it could work, or lock up your machine.

I think you both gave me a solution but really I don't know how to manage the 
listed instruction.
I've a SUSE 9.2 linux version and I use usually YAST2 to confgiure the system.
Moreover when all my sound system is halted (for example when I want to use 
Audacity ans it's not able to find the sound card - the Intel one built in in 
the motherboard) I run alsaconf as su.
I've not able to do more than this.
Do you think you can help me more than already done?
Grateful in advance.

Can some SuSE user out there provide step by step instructions to apply
the patch and recompile ALSA?

Currently Giuseppe is the only Linux user we know of with access to this
hardware, so this feedback would be quite valuable.

Another option would be to provide me with temporary SSH access to the
machine.  It would probably only take half an hour.  Please mail me
privately if you are interested in this approach.

Here's a corrected patch to cause the emu10k1 driver to claim this device.

I have no idea what will happen, it could work, or lock up your machine.
But we have at least one Linux user with access to the hardware, so we
might as well try...
