polypaudio renamed to pulseaudio

Hi,

According to www.pulseaudio.org the polypaudio project was renamed to 
pulseaudio. As a result the names of the header files and some other stuff 
have changed and alsa-plugins cannot be built with support for pulseaudio. 
I think that a new plugin should be added with support for the new PA 
project. It would probably be mostly a copy of the polyp plugin with 
minimal changes.

This can be fixed as soon as the polpyaudio/pulseaudio developers submit
patches.

Actually I only used the acronym because I was too bored to write both 
project names. There is nothing official about it, although AFAIK all 
function names in the library do have a pa_ prefix...

Yup, that bothers me too.  Also the fact that they seem to have
developed PulseAudio in complete isolation - they did not as much as
post to the ALSA list before it was done.  How do we even know it was
necessary to develop yet another sound server, rather than improve ALSA?
It reeks of NIH.

I suppose that PulseAudio has a networked aspect that may be out of the 
scope of ALSA and its design seems more flexible than ESD and less complex 
than JACK, but I don't know how it measures up to other sound servers like 
artsd or NAS. I seem to remember though that the polyp ALSA plugin was 
developed after a bounty from some company, so its necessity may have not 
been examined very objectively - money does have the tendency to twist the 
way people think :-)

Not Invented Here.  The tendency in software development to constantly
reinvent the wheel by writing your own system rather than improving on
what's already available.
