No you should use the right type for your procsesor. I see that you are using X-window, so I guess you do not see the console. Unfortunately, if your hang is due to a kernel oops we do not have a clue. So, you should try and get the console output on another machine, using preferably a serial cable, or if not possible the netconsole. -- Gilles. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 14+ messages in thread

Unfortunately to uninstall gnome-power-manager I must also uninstall 'ubuntu-desktop'.. which I am not sure I want to do. Any ideas? Do I need to switch to a different window manager? Is there some setting with gnome-power-manager I can set that will avoid the freezing? I will also query the ubuntu community. If I hear anything back I will post it here. J.D. Please all stop thinking that you have the same problem as Benoit. There are many ways to get freezes, it could be configuration problems, irq sharing problems, adeos patch problems, drivers problems, problems in real-time applications (such as infinite loop in a real-time thread). So, stop jumping quickly to conclusions, do what we are asking you, and provide feedback on your experiences. -- Gilles. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 14+ messages in thread

The point is not about blaming Gnome PM, but we do know for sure that power management related drivers may have adverse effects on a Xenomai-patched kernel - see the troubleshooting guide. If your kernel enable those, and Gnome PM triggers actions on those such as CPU freq governors, bad things may happen.
