What does the cpufreq driver offer crusoe kernels that the longrun userspace utility can't already do.

Just a standard proc interface to the settings?

I am switching from 2.5.70 to 2.4.21-ck1 .. it doesn't have cpufreq support for crusoe.

What advantages does the 2.5.70 cpufreq module have over the userspace longrun util.

I initially started using this, when I wasn't aware of the CPUFreq project.

So CPUFreq doesn't modify the vm or do proc monitoring in the kernel to come up 
with better times to turn on fans and the like?
