The mixcomwd, pcwd, and wdt (how generic!) drivers support discrete ISA
watchdog cards. The wdt driver in particular does not support
autoprobing and requires manual specification of the I/O port and IRQ
the card uses. A WDT is integrated into many modern chipsets and Super
I/O chips. Embedded boards using a WDT, even ones with ISA slots, are
unlikely to do so via a discrete ISA card due to the amount of space
required. Given these factors, it is highly unlikely anyone is using
these drivers. Remove them.

- If you have a WDT500P or WDT501P watchdog board, say Y here,

watchdog: remove drivers for discrete ISA WDT cards
This commit removes the mixcomwd, pcwd, and wdt drivers that support
obsolete discrete ISA watchdog cards.

Does this code removal also need to clean up the corresponding documentation?
It looks like the commit removes the mixcomwd, pcwd, and wdt drivers, but
leaves their documentation intact:
- Documentation/watchdog/pcwd-watchdog.rst explicitly documents the removed
pcwd ISA driver.
- Documentation/watchdog/wdt.rst provides obsolete boot parameter examples
(wdt.io and wdt.irq) for the removed wdt driver.
- Documentation/watchdog/watchdog-parameters.rst contains stale module
parameter entries for the removed mixcomwd driver.
- Documentation/watchdog/index.rst still includes links to the orphaned
files in its toctree.

Umm ... no. Declare them deprecated and announce that they will be removed
in a later kernel version unless someone speaks up. Do a Google search for
"How to deprecate Linux kernel code" and follow the guidance.
Also, remember the "one logical change per patch" rule.

In my personal opinion, that isn't necessary and probably wouldn't help.
The kernel tried doing official deprecation anouncements a long time
ago via feature-removal-schedule.txt, but they turned out to be
useless because no one was reading the file. It was removed in commit
9c0ece069b32e8e122aea71aa47181c10eb85ba7 (which I will refrain from
quoting here because it was written in classic Linus style).
Other subsystems have been removing drivers without notification and
only restoring them if someone complains.
For example, see:
- git log drivers/net/ethernet/Makefile (note how fealnx was removed
and restored because someone was using it)
- commit c0fef45dbab0 ("char/mwave: drop it")
- commit 9b12f050c76f ("char: pcmcia: remove all the drivers")

I will split this patch in a future version (and remove the
documentation, as pointed out by Sashiko).
I have also made a new version of the it8712f_wdt removal patch (as a
series) which resolves all the transition-related issues pointed out
by Sashiko and makes it87_wdt a drop-in replacement for it. I will
send it after the 24-hour waiting period ends.
Have a nice day!
Ethan

Typically not without previous discussion, which did not happen here.
You are not the decider for this subsystem, much less one to make decisions
without even consulting maintainers first. I'll just ignore your removal
patches.
