get Broken pipe also with a stereo file provided you output it to a

I dont know for sure if the patch has already made it into CVS; judging
from the log of pcm_direct.c where it states that revision 1.59 has closed
this bug I assume it has. So I reopen the bug because revision 1.59 does
*not* solve this bug. I can however confirm that this is a 64/32 bit
issue, since 64-bit mplayer doesn't exhibit this issue.
Should, against my expectations, the relevant patch for solving this bug
not be in anon CVS yet, I appologize for reopening this request again.

This issue with bug id #1938 is about sound_pcm_writei returning EPIPE in
mixed 64/32 bit environment and this is the bug number that pcm_direct.c
log refers to. I've tried today's CVS which I understnd contains all the
changes in rc4 and this bug still exists.
There is another bug with id #1584 regarding 100% CPU load with dmix
device on mixed 64/32 bit systems where I added a note. I will check later
if it has been solved because I requires the builtin soundcard to be
reenabled in the BIOS.

Summary: EPIPE on Audigy with surround sound when seeking in
6 channel sound file
Description:
Seeking in a 6 channel sound or video file using a surround device gives
EPIPE (Broken pipe). This happens with both mplayer and vlc. My soundcard
is an Audigy 1 (SB0090). I'm running a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit
userspace. I've tried libs and modules from CVS two days ago with no
success.

apps?

It happens only with 32-bit apps when using a surround device (surround40
or surround51). It doesn't matter how many channels the file actually has

In order to find the place where mplayer reports Broken pipe, search for
"write error" in mplayer.strace. Strange enough, there's no system call
returning EPIPE but I don't know the internals of ALSA so that might not
mean anything.

Summary: EPIPE on Audigy with surround sound when seeking in

Description:
Seeking in a 6 channel sound or video file using a surround device gives
EPIPE (Broken pipe). This happens with both mplayer and vlc. My soundcard
is an Audigy 1 (SB0090). I'm running a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit
userspace. I've tried libs and modules from CVS two days ago with no
success.

In order to find the place where mplayer reports Broken pipe, search for
"write error" in mplayer.strace. Strange enough, there's no system call
returning EPIPE but I don't know the internals of ALSA so that might not
mean anything.

I've done some tests with another soundcard (builtin nforce4, intel8x0
driver) and this bug doesn't appear there. So it seems that this problem
is somehow specific to the Audigy soundcard.

enabled. I get the following additional message when seeking in a file:
alsa-lib: pcm.c:6300:(snd_pcm_mmap_commit) commit offset (0) doesn't match
with appl_ptr (181300) % buf_size (16384)
Hope this helps to solve the problem.

For some reason I can't comment on an existing bug which I didn't author.
Perhaps this requires a higher level of access?
I'm user rhardy on Mantis...
Basically I was trying to point out I am also affected by this bug:

Two possibilities exist:
1. I missed some of the changes tiwai made. Please point out what if this is
the case.
2. It really isn't fixed in alsa-lib CVS (or isn't visible in viewcvs.)
Testing out the recent changes made by tiwai here:

I took alsa-lib-1.0.11rc4 and applied patches extracted from view cvs above
to update the follow files to the listed versions below:

pcm_rate.c: 1.113
pcm_direct.c: 1.60
pcm_plugin.c: 1.101
pcm_softvol.c: 1.18

This unfortunately made no difference here. I'm running 2.6.16-rh3 which is 2.6.16.1 with

This card once worked fine unfortunately I'm not sure with what
mplayer/alsa-lib/alsa-driver/kernel....
I'm running a i686/32bit mplayer in a 64 bit environment.
After applying the patch above and upgrading alsa-lib, I still get the same
errors from mplayer when I try to seek 6 channel audio using surround51:

Description:
Seeking in a 6 channel sound or video file using a surround device gives
EPIPE (Broken pipe). This happens with both mplayer and vlc. My soundcard
is an Audigy 1 (SB0090). I'm running a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit
userspace. I've tried libs and modules from CVS two days ago with no
success.
