hi,
nfs.soureforge.net talks of kernel version atleast 2.2.18 to use nfs version 3 .My system shows 
"Red Hat Linux release 7.0(Guinness)
 Kernel 2.2.16-22 on i686"
Nebody ne clues what this -22 means and also will i be able to use nfs (3) on this system of mine..

If you don't want to build your own kernel, then there are a couple of
things you could do:

Upgrade to RedHat 7.2 - which has a 2.4.X kernel plus everything else
you need to use NFSv3.

If you can't upgrade to RedHat 7.2, then the latest RedHat update kernel
for RedHat 7.0 is 2.2.19-7.0.15. I have no idea if this kernel does
support NFSv3, but I guess it does. (RedHat make a number of
additions/modifications to a standard kernel - the number after the '-'
is added by RedHat and probably means something like the 15th build of a
RH kernel based on 2.2.19 for RH 7.0). Download from:

ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.0/en/os/i686/

The RedHat support site should have instructions on how to upgrade a RH
kernel.

You will probably still have to update the nfs-utils (and mount?) as per
the FAQ.

2.2.16 is an adequate base to start from, but if you're able
to make bigger changes, and want the best nfs platform for 
2.2, then go to 2.2.19.

For 2.2.16, Go to http://nfs.sourceforge.net/ and follow the 
link to the download page (containing both the nfs-utils tar 
balls and the kernel patches).

You need to apply the kernel-nfs-dhiggen_merge-3.0.tar.gz
download to 2.2.16.

Apply the latest nfs utils download (nfs-utils-0.3.3.tar.gz)

Both have readme files; they'll give you the requirements and
tell you what to do.

Yes there is a way (modprobe --force your_module).

i've tried both the methods:

1.modprobe --force ./hello.o
2.-I in gcc (/usr/src/linux/include)

i'm getting "kernel will get tainted" warnings.

anyother better way?
In my /usr/src/ I have two folders one as LINUX and
also LINUX2.4.21-4.EL
how is it possible?
moreover, the LINUX folder has an arrow symbol over
it?what does that mean?

Hi Rekha,
          When i said use -l /usr/src/linux/include it does not mean u
have to type "exactly" that, the name of the folder will be different.
Use that name. Besides the arrow thing you are talking about is
actually a soft link (asuming you saw it in ls listing).
