I have dosemu-1.1.3.1 with mouse and dpmi_iret patches applied.
When I try running Space Quest 2, dosemu exits.
The last 100 lines of a full log are attached.

Hello.

According the log, it doesn't seem to
use DPMI, so dpmi_iret patch might not
affect.

How good is it without any patches?
Does it work on dosemu-1.0.2.1?
It seems to use DMA before crash,
does it make sense if you disable
sound in program's setup or apply
the sound patch? Do you have
$_sound=(on) ?

It also crashes on 1.1.3. I don't remember exactly what went wrong with
1.0.2.1 since it was a while ago.
If I disable sound I get pretty much the same result, see below.

Space Quest 2 runs fine here under xdosemu 1.0.2.1

OK, I have downloaded something
called the Space Quest, which
turned to be a game dated 1987
with CGA graphics, by Sierra.
If this is the game you mentioned,
then it works fine here under
dosemu-1.1.3.1 with PC-DOS 7.0,
so you have to check your local
configs.

That is Space Quest 1, which doesn't work either. However, I downloaded
an archive from the web, and that works! It is the installation from my
CD that fails.

I have now done some more investigation. This is what gets installed if
I install with the dosemu cdrom driver:
agi hgc_font logdir picdir sq.com vol.0
agidata.ovl _install.bat object snddir viewdir words.tok
And this is what gets installed when I use lredir:
agidata.ovl hgc_graf.ovl _install.bat vg_graf.ovl vol.2
cga_graf.ovl hgc_objs.ovl jr_graf.ovl vol.0 words.tok
ega_graf.ovl ibm_objs.ovl sq.com vol.1
None of the above is complete.

That's strange indeed, anyway, it becomes an academic exercise then.
Anyway, the port it complains about (0x200) usually is the joystick
port. Clarence Dang has now contributed a nice joystick emulation patch
that I'll put in dosemu 1.1.3.2. Then we will be able to use the
joystick without (suid-)root direct port access, but instead using the
Linux driver.

Could you try both cases and send (mail) me a complete D+Dd log of the
installation process. Please bzip2 the log since those logs are big but
compress extremely well.
