[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 426 bytes --]

I have an Intel 536EP modem that I have finally been able to get working
in Linux. It works in everything except dosemu. When I add $_com2 =
"/dev/modem" to dosemu.conf my system locks when I try to start dosemu.
Hard lock requiring a reboot. I also have a modem at /dev/ttyS0 and it
works fine. I've checked permissions and everything seems to be correct.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Thanks,
Rick Knight

Claudia,

Thanks for your reply

The lock seems to be working properly and I do have write permissions to
/var/lock (its set to 777). Just for testing I did un-comment $_ttylocks
= "/var/lock" but that made no difference. I can start xdosemu and get
the DOS prompt, just as soon as I start my app (ProcomPlus) my system
freezes, keyboard and mouse are locked and a hard boot is required to
get things back. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again,
Rick Knight

My modems (Courier 28.8 external, Actiontec PCI call waiting non-winmodem)
connect to the Internet fine with 2.4.0, and broke around 2.4.1. What
happens is they dial out, make those sounds, and just as they seem to be
about to connect, they disconnect. I'm pretty sure both kernels are
configured correctly. This still occurs with kernel 2.4.6.

On a seperate note (and I realize this is a lot more nebulous) my disk
begins to make a lot of noise at random times and doesn't stop for several
minutes. This sometimes happens when using apt-get, though I've seen it do
it at gdm login prompts. 128 megs ram, 130 meg swap. Any ideas...?

Thank you,

Gerry
