D-LINK 504T DSL Router

Hello List,

I want to make the following issue public:

D-LINK sells a 100% native linux-based DSL Modem/Router "D-LINK 504T"
WHen I bought that router, I didn't know, that it is linux based... but
the price was fine.

I installed the router, configured it for PPPOA (ADSL Austria) and
figured out, regarding the "Systemlog"-tab in the web admin surface,
that the debugging message looks quiet like syslogd and ppp messages.

So I telnetet the router - and yes, it's linux.

As long as you connect with Windows XP 2000 clients, all fine, but then
I plugged a Linux PC to it, and except a ping nothing worked, so I
checked the iptables rules: except the MASQUERADING in the postrouting
table no rules where set and all chains set to ACCEPT.

I connected a second linux client - same thing, the VMWare on that linux
client was able to connect... so... tell me, whats wrong with that
device?

So I sent a support request to D-LINK.
Unfortunatly it's german, but I'm sure, some of you will be able to read
it.

Mainly I want to reach Harald Velte as he gave an interview to the
german "Linux Magazine" regarding the GPL License, DLINK didn't shipp
with their products - at least, now they do that.

It's interesting, and amusing in a sad way. But I bet you can make it 
work somehow. Do you want to detail the network information here? We 
can probably figure out what's wrong.

FWIW I do try to avoid DLink. But then, they're no worse than other 
companies. I've just had personal experiences with DLink. My issue was 
an incompatibility between their switch and a sis900 onboard NIC. My 
workaround was to use a Linksys switch with uplink between the DLink 
and the sis900.

Hello,

I heard of many problems with diffrent network cards and DLink Routers. Did 
you try a diffrent network card inside your Linux box? It's probably not IP 
related. Does auto negociation work on both sides? DLink uses Montavista 
Linux for the 504T series. If everything fails, maybe try diffrent Linux 
kernel versions (2.6, 2.4, 2.2,..) on your linux box.

Concerning GPL you could ask D-Link to provide you a GPL source release of 
their router software (I doubt it helps though) since you will need to use 
Montavista to compile it.

PS. A quick check online showed that this router works with Fedora Core 3, 
but there seem to be some issues with IPv6 mapped adresses and the routers DNS.
