Hi,
I am come across the MALTA specific stable kernel (2.6.12-rc6)
available on linux-malta.git repository.
I have cloned this repository and would like to build it with the
compatible toolchain in little endian mode.
Can anyone please let me know the toolchain specification
(gcc/glibc/binutils version specifcations) that have been used or can
be used for compiling the 2.6.12 kernel?
I tried to build the few toolchain combination from automated script
(demo-mipsel.sh) available at kegel.com, but they are failing.
My native OS is Red Hat 9 (gcc version 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5).
Thanks and Regards,
Shyamal

Hi,
I am facing boot problem with the Malta specific 2.6.12-rc6 kernel.
The kernel is not booting up on our Malta 4kc development board.
I do not see any error messages on the minicom window.
Has anyone tried this kernel since it I got this kernel after cloning
the linux-malta.git repository?
I had build this kernel with SDE cross-toolchain in little endian mode
(gcc-3.4.4).
Thanks and Regards,
Shyamal

So what do you see? Please cut-and-paste the full YAMON sign-on and
kernel boot sequence and send to the list.
What are you using for a root file system?
A copy of your .config file would be useful too.

In case you're using the default configuration file, it's set to
MIPS32R1 but the 4Kc is an R1 processor. Are you sure you really have a
4Kc and not a 4Kec? The latter is an R2 processor.

Argh. I meant:
In case you're using the default configuration file, it's set to
MIPS32R2 but the 4Kc is an R1 processor. Are you sure you really have a

I configured the kernel as required for 4Kc, but could not bring up the
board. The configuration file is enclosed along with this mail (configured
for big endian). As I mentioned in the other thread, the board comes up,
when I replace arch/mips/mips-boards/generic/pci.c file in 2.6.16 kernel
with the file from 2.6.10 with the appropriate changes required, to
pci.cfile. But, I am not sure, whether my approach is correct and what
is going
wrong with 2.6.16 kernel. Currently, I am looking into it. If any of you
have idea, please let me know.
thanks,

Hi Nigel, Ralf,
Yes, I'm using the default config with option set to R1 processor.
I am using NFS filesystem and loading the image through ethernet using minicom.
Here's the sequence:
Start NFS service
load tftp://192.168.2.237/vmlinux.srec
go .nfsroot=192.168.2.237/linux/mipsel ip=192.168.2.24
Here's the YAMON boot message:
NUX started...

Hi All,
To further to add on to info and to bring one point to notice,
I had build my kernel with SDE toolset (gcc version 3.4.4
mipssde-6.02.03-20050629) and binutils 2.15.94 (for e.g., GNU objcopy
2.15.94 mipssde-6.02.03-20050629)
It is mentioned on SDE site, that the SDE package will only install
compiler but I found that it installed binutils package also.
I am going to try with binutils 2.16 and lets see if it helps.
Thanks and Regards,
Shyamal

Hello Kishore,
Following the history of "problem with MALTA thread", you had
mentioned that you will try with 2.16 binutils. Have you tried with
2.16 version?
Regarding 2.6.12 kernel version, it is put under stable MALTA git
repository so most likely it could have been validated for MALTA
platform.
Regarding pci.c file of 2.6.10 version, Can you please pass me that
file so I will just try directly in my 2.6.12 kernel and see if it
works?
Thanks and Regards,
Shyamal

Yes. but without success.

I was using tar balls from linux-mips, rather than from MALTA git
repository.

Please find the file (arch/mips/mips-boards/generic/pci.c) enclosed along
with this mail.
