Hello all,
Quite some time ago people volunteered to do something about the mlmmj
website, now we have mlmmj.org domain.
Nothing have happened (that I know of) however, so I was wondering what
the status is?
Now that we have so many big list servers running mlmmj, and it's quite
stable and mature, we really should get a decent website.

If hosting is an issue, I can talk to some folks at the Open Source Lab at
Oregon State University (http://www.osuosl.org/) They provide a ton of
free hosting for the likes of Debian, phpBB, apache, openoffice, etc. (and,
of course, gentoo :)

That sounds cool, but I think hosting is they one area where we're well
covered. A major ISP here in Denmark have bought the mlmmj.org domain
for us an will hosts is together with the list etc.
Problem is to have someone make a simple, good navigatable, works in all
browsers website.

That sounds good, but germany is quite badly connected to Asia. If you
need it, I can provide a ftp mirror (or even a full web mirror as well)
for MLMMJ in Singapore. I'd just like to have a small link back to us if
possible (but I would do it even without the link).
For the website, I'm sorry to say that I wouldn't have time to do it.
But my company can pay for a small template for the graphics. It could
be bought in sites like templatemonster.com or others.
http://www.templatemonster.com/category.php?type=1&tid=+-+Any+-&search_words=+-+Any+-&from_=&to=&cat#&style=0&author=0&x'&y=5
Just pickup one of them, and I put the company credit card to buy it.
I personally like the #9317 template with the funny toaster...
For the content itself, I think static HTML is best, I don't like silly
CMS like joomla, drupal and so on, that are slow (and CPU eaters), and
have many security flows.

I myself hate such default templates.
No offense, but they are often bady built. I always split the content
from the layout. Then even blind people can use it, or people with text
browsers like lynx or links, which I often use when downloading files.
If mads likes one it's often easy to make a proper design for that.
CMS systems are not silly, probably cpu eaters, but often very useful,
especially when you make a site which has to be maintained by someone
else who can't build proper HTML pages. Although static HTML is the
fastest and most stable way of hosting.

On my experience with those templates, they ARE done the way you say,
most of the time using pure CSS design with div tags.

My mean is only to say that it's a bit silly to use a (CPU eater) CMS
when we all know html, and when the content WILL be static.

If so ignore my comment, but in the five years I worked as web-developer
fulltime I have seen too many bad of such templates.
Another thing why I dislkike them is because they look too default, do
you get what I mean?

Then we agree on this point I think.
HTML is fast and stable with "no" flaws.
CMS's are for "silly" users who can't or don't want to do proper HTML
themselves.

It is good to hear about the domain. I know some of you have
reservations against content management systems, but I think that using
a CMS like drupal (http://www.drupal.org/) would be of great benefit for
mlmmj. It will also help build a community, in addition to providing a
base which is both secure and browser compatible. Anyway I'm prepared to
host the site (I can also host the domain), and also administer it. I
have also moved the current information to a site, and you can view it here:

I also think that a wiki is a very important tool. Since we used it, it
improved a lot the support of our software in less than 6 months.
I'm using PmWiki which is IMHO a lot better than the one from wikipedia
(which I forgot the name).

Ah yes. wikipedia uses mediawiki (which seems to be the most popular
wiki), but TWiki (http://twiki.org) is IMHO the best wiki, simply
because the TWiki has the most logical syntax.
