I've tried to do some testing on this, but it has been made more
difficult as a result of the flux that the SBUS layer has been going
through in 2.6 lately (not complaining, but this bug has crept out of
it):
On sparc32 esp connected CDROMs (I'm testing with my ss20), when I try
to access the CDROM from Linux, the following spews from the kernel:
sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: <6> Get configuration 46 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 20 00
sr: Current: Sense key: No Sense
Additional sense: No additional sense information
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=32
I can confirm that the CDROM worked fine before (thanks to git
bisecting):

[SBUS]: Rewrite and plug into of_device framework.
I severely apologize, I was still learning how to program
in C when I wrote this stuff 10 years ago...
Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
This bug is similar to:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393786
However, with the latest git tree (post merge of davem's sparc tree), I
get the above error instead of the DMA errors.
I'm not convinced this is toolchain related, as building git trees
before the of_device rewrite with the same toolchain works fine. Then
again, the new code could be exposing something.
I'm using: gcc version 4.1.1 20060629 (Red Hat 4.1.1-6)
Tested with kernel: 2.6.21-rc3-git9
Kernel config file is attached.
While this isn't technically a blocker for Aurora, its a rather big
annoyance. Not sure where to look on how to fix this one, but very
willing and able to test. First test will be with a gcc34 built kernel
to rule out compiler.

Let me see if the same bug triggers with current trees on my
sparc64 sbus machines. I tested those, but I don't think I
hit CDROM's. :-/

Dusted off an Ultra1 to test this, and I get the following from dmesg:
sr 0:0:6:0: CD-ROM TOSHIBA XM-5401TASUN4XCD 1036 PQ: 0 ANSI:
2
esp0: target 6 asynchronous
sr0: scsi-1 drive
Uniform CD-ROM driver: Revision: 3.20
sr 0:0:6:0: Attached CD-ROM sr0
sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: <6>Get configuration 46 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 20 00
sr: <<DEFERRED>> [descriptor]: sense key=0xf
<<VENDOR>> ASC=0xf8 ASCQ
SC=0xf8 ASCQ=0x0
The ioctl error repeats once more in the sequence...but the CDROM seems
to work ok, as compared to sparc32, where it refuses to work.
Hmm.

I don't know if am I right but I have SS5 with 3 esp controllers and
atached external CD-ROM and it works without this messages.

Unfortunately that puts the ball in your or someone else's court,
since I don't have any sparc32 systems and therefore any way to work
on sparc32 bugs.
Sorry.
Really, you should drop sparc32 support in Aurora if you want my
opinion. Then you can build glibc sparcv9 by default and make other
significant improvements to the userspace. I probably won't ever use
Aurora until you make this switch, the performance just from being
able to -mcpu=v8 -mtune=ultrasparc all of userspace is very noticable.
Making a distribution for a kernel platform that has no active
maintainer is beyond foolish, you'll always have bugs that nobody
is going to fix other than yourself and that doesn't scale and
will continually hold up the release.

Well, it looks like I spoke too soon. CD1 worked, but CD2 gave me these
errors when I tried to read it:
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want\x1205604, limit\x1268440
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want\x1205608, limit\x1268440
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want\x1205612, limit\x1268440
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want\x1205616, limit\x1268440
Confirmed that the image and the CD is good (it reads fine in several
other machines).
CD1 was slightly smaller, perhaps thats why it slipped by?

CD1 has 619M of data on it.
CD2 has 638M of data on it.
