Nightly Builds

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a automated nightly build that goes on  
based upon source checkins for the day.

Would it be a good idea for someone to do this? I have the  
infrastructure to do so.

The opensuse build service would also be perfect for this. It's possible
to have scripts using osc that will check in changes automatically. It
has support for a ridiculous number of distributions and versions.

Hello,
I tend to agree with Jeff on this one, and I would like it on the opensuse
build service too.
That would allow more people to access/use/test/try out a built kernel
with those reiser4 features provided, and the build process can be
automated as I understand and patches can go in as needed.
Opensuse build service [for those that do not know] is located at
https://build.opensuse.org/
I have not got the expertise to put it on the Opensuse service myself.

Is there anyone else willing to have a go to make a Reiser4 based kernel
on the Opensuse build service ?

I can do that sometime this week. I already have it set up a little bit,
I just haven't been tending to it. Do other distributions have something
similar to our Kernel Module Packages? Our kernels have the core support
needed for reiser4, but can generate external module packages to install
 reiser4 itself.

Thanks for letting me/us know,
Your doing good valuable work for many, let us know of the progress of the
 reiser4-enabled/installable kernel in the Opensuse service. I'm
interested in doing some tests if that helps.

I only really have access to the openSUSE flavors. I'm glad to help with
this, but I'm not really looking to install other distributions to keep
them updated.

If you're interested in seeing a particular distribution supported,
please set up a build service account and create a derivative package by
 linking to drivers:filesystems/reiser4-kmp. Once you've gotten it
working on your distribution, let me know, and I'll pull the changes
into the drivers:filesystems project.

- I do have a build service account.
- Ive set up a sample project 'Reiser4-experimental' with (home:doiggl)

I'm stuck on how to do the next bit which is -
Question: How do I create a derivative package by linking to
rivers:filesystems/reiser4-kmp ?

In the past I tried to compile on a pc, just a vanilla patched reiser4
kernel but it did not boot at all.
These are the steps I did:
 cd /usr/src
 rm linux
 rm -rf linux-2.6.25
 tar -jxvf  linux-2.6.25.8.tar.bz2
 ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.8 linux
 cd  /usr/src/linux
 patch -p1 --dry-run < ../reiser4-for-2.6.25.patch
 echo "apply patch reiser4-for-2.6.25.patch"
 patch -p1 < ../reiser4-for-2.6.25.patch
 cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config
 make menuconfig
 make binrpm-pkg | tee ../make-r4-2.6.25.log

Here was the last bit of the output:-

In your home project, you can do "link package from other project."

No, I don't build entire kernels - just the kernel module package. The
package will just contain
/lib/modules/$VERSION/kernel/fs/reiser4/reiser4.ko. If you want to boot
using reiser4, put the module in your initramfs.

Questions:
-If I install rpm reiser4-kmp-0.1-18.2.x86_64.rpm in Opensuse 11,
will it install /lib/modules/$VERSION/kernel/fs/reiser4/reiser4.ko in the
correct place ?
- Would I be able to restart the pc and run Reiser4 commands to format and
set up a Reiser4 partition and use that ?

That RPM, no, since I didn't add the 11.0 repository to the project
until just now. The build is scheduled, though.

Once that completes, you can use that RPM to do exactly what you
describe. It will be installed and loaded as if it were part of the
regular kernel package. You don't even need to reboot, just load the
module and go.

with smart package manager, BUT reiser4-0.1-20.2@x86_64 is missing access
to a package.

The Error Message (from smart package manager) is:
Can't install reiser4-0.1-20.2@x86_64: no package provides

Question:
Where is the repository so I can install a package which provides

Are you running the Factory kernel or openSUSE 11? This is a sanity
check to ensure that symbols that modules need are met by the kernel.
It's to avoid breakage when you update the kernel and don't have
compatible modules.

kernel (kernel-default-2.6.25.5-1.1).

No, you should be all set now, just download the same file you did
before. The problem was that I was trying to do double indirection with
the compliation (external kernel dir and external module dir), and it
ended up only packaging the last flavor to be built, which was -xen.

Now that's fixed so downloading from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/drivers:/filesystems/openSUSE_11.0/
will contain the correct files.

I Installed the file (reiser4-0.1-23.1.x86_64.rpm) but it has a problem it
contains no files that I can see and it was only 1858 bytes long.

That's not what you want. That's an artifact of the KMP process. You
want reiser4-kmp-<flavor>

Strange. That's not the file I see in that link. I see

No, you shouldn't even need to reboot if you're currently running the
2.6.25.9-default kernel.

If it succeeds, it's working.

You'll need the reiser4 tools, which opensuse ships with.

postmark, fsx-linux, dbench, etc. Nothing really in particular. When I'm
testing a file system I usually have specific things I'm trying to test,
but those are the most common ones.

You might want some tutorial about hard disk basic concepts.
Format logical partitions, not extended ones.

this is the 'reiserfs' mailing list - and as such other fs should stay with 
theirs. If you'd make a xfs derivate and advertised it on the xfs ml - what do 
you think would happen?
Or with people creating a linux-fork and advertising it on lkml?

1. OntoFS is not a ReiserX clone, it is based on R4 source code.
2. The GPL gives everybody the rigth to do with the source code what 
she/he wants to, as long as the GPL is respected.
3. Don't take informations from the OntoLinux website again and put it 
into the wikipedia!
