Hi,
Is anyone actually working to get it running again, and if so, why is it
taking so *$($*(@$*(@ long?

No idea. That's the drawback of using donated services. The one in charge of
colocation is not in germany right now, according to him he notified the
computing centre, but i have yet to get an update from them. Since I don't
even have an account at the computing centre, it's a bit tough for me to put
pressure on those guys.
I know it's always annoying when a server goes down, but this arrangement was
the best we could do and it worked well until now, so let's not freak out and
hope it's coming back soon.
What about all the server offers we had in the past years, btw.? Was anything
really accomplished there? If so, where are these servers, we should work on
a mirroring system.
Chees,

Thanks, that clears things up a bit. All I knew that is was down and
that there were no messages what happened and what steps are being taken
to fix it.
Isn't there a remote powerswitch that can get flipped like strato has?

Can we point DNS back to ltg in the meantime? Having a page saying we're
down is way better than having all website timeout.

Koen

There is probably, but I don't have an account there. Once Harald is back,
I'll do the necessary things to prepare a better response time if that may
happen again.
Then again, the traceroute indicates it's not the machine that's not
responding (80.81.242.146), but rather some router craashed within the
computing centre. So even a powerswitch would not help in that case.

I just pointed it back, but ltg needs to claim oe.net in apache2 and redirect
to oe.ltg.org, otherwise we only get the main page.

My recollection of the other server offers is they involved carting
machines from point A to point B and we couldn't figure out how to do
this without someone spending more money than it would cost to pay for
hosting somewhere :(

This doesn't help now but I've just set things in motion to totally
change my internet connectivity. Once that is done I should have a high
bandwidth ADSL line with static IPs I can put servers on the end of. I'm
more than happy to run a backup/mirror there which we can switch in to
replace the main server in circumstances like this.
Cheers,
Richard

Fwiw, my call to the computing centre seemed to have worked.
Amethyst is back again.
Richard, I think once we have a full mirror of it (synced daily or so), we
should be fine in terms of redundance. Do you have any ETA for your new
network?

Great news. Do we know what went wrong?

I'm guessing about 2 weeks. I could do something in the meantime but
since I know the setup is going to change I'd prefer to wait until after
thats happened.
Cheers,
Richard

Not really. The computing centre claimed they have "restarted" it, which is
clearly bogus given its 10 days uptime. traceroute inspection rather makes me
suspect they had a faulty router which they've replaced or restarted.

Sure. Sounds good.

The nslu2-linux.org project offered a shared server arrangement on our redundantly provisioned Xen machines at OSUOSL back then, and the offer still stands.
We could bring up an instance for *.openembedded.net in a matter of hours ... just contact Tom King (ka6sox).
