[ath9k-devel] Desktop wireless card with atheros 802.11n at 5GHz frequency???

Does anyone make a desktop wireless card, either PCI
or PCI express, using the atheros 802.11n chipset and
the 5Ghz frequency band?

I would like to use the 5 GHz band because I live in
an apartment complex.  I used netstumbler and found 17
APs within range.  Channels 1, 6, and 11 were heavily
used.

Don't believe there are some 5 GHz 11n capable cards being sold yet in
the retail market that you can purchase independently. If anyone knows
better please correct me if I'm wrong.

There seems to be no PCI / PCI Express card available (yet?), but you might be able to use something like http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9307 ("Mini PCI to PCI Adapter") and a Mini PCI card with Atheros abgn chipset like http://www.ubnt.com/products/sr71a.php
Unfortunately these cards are very expensive (cf. e.g. http://www.netgate.com/product_info.php?products_id=587 ) and you have to find a way to get a second and third antenna attached.

The wi-fi card in the Macbook Pro/Santa Rosa is Atheros-based (AR5418)
and supports 802.11n.

That said, I'm not sure of the form factor.

The older macbook 3,1 also uses this Atheros card that is 802.11n. It is
confirmed mini-PCIe. I'm not sure if it's sold separately.

I wish!  The Santa Rosa is the 3rd gen Intel-based Macbook Pro.
