commit 30f10d4d2b102bd7184b84c9cc3d2246f060706a
Author: Ian Campbell <ian.campbell@citrix.com>
Date: Thu Nov 6 13:00:31 2014 +0000

tools: libxl: do not leak diskpath during local disk attach

    libxl__device_disk_local_initiate_attach is assigning dls->diskpath with a
strdup of the device path. This is then passed to the callback, e.g.
parse_bootloader_result but bootloader_cleanup will not free it.

Since the callback is within the scope of the (e)gc and therefore doesn't need
to be malloc'd, a gc'd alloc will do. All other assignments to this field use
    the gc.

This is because on the final iteration the tok += 3 skips over the terminating
NUL to the next byte, and then *tok reads it. Fix this by using endptr as the
    iterator.

libxc: check return values on mmap() and madvise() on xc_alloc_hypercall_buffer()

On a Thinkpad T4440p with OpenSUSE tumbleweed with v3.15-rc4
and today's latest xen tip from the git tree strace -f reveals
we end up on a never ending wait shortly after

    write(20, "backend/console/5\0", 18 <unfinished ...>

This is right before we just wait on the qemu process which we
had mmap'd for. Without this you'll end up getting stuck on a
loop if mmap() worked but madvise() did not. While at it I noticed
even the mmap() error fail was not being checked, fix that too.

In all recent xen-boot failures I looked at the boot process seems
stalled starting ntpd - is that perhaps infrastructure related?

Both involved hosts appear to still be affected by the swiotlb issue
- wasn't that supposed to long be addressed?

That's not impossible, I'd suspect DNS related. Hopefully all this sort
of thing will be much better (or at least under our control) in the new
colo.

The patches to increase the swiotlb size in osstest didn't help, I
think.

David V posted some patches upstream to fix the problem at the root, but
I don't remember seeing any responses from the upstream maintainers
(they touched some common and/or x86 code IIRC)

Ian.

There are two main users of the swiotlb.

1. The mptsas driver incorrectly setting the DMA mask based on max_pfn.

The series I posted addresses this. But after only 1 (rude) response
from the relevant maintainers in 5 different versions of this series I
have no wish to pursue this further.

Someone else will need to pick it up if they care.

You can work around this by giving more than 4 GiB of PFN space to dom0
(e.g, dom0_mem=2G,max:4G would work).

This is only a problem with debug builds of Xen where pages are
deliberately allocated in reverse order. In non-debug builds this is
much less of a problem (most of dom0's memory ends up being machine
contiguous).

Our (XenServer's) long term plan is to introduce the PV IOMMU support to
make bus addresses contiguous. Malcolm will be able to advise on what
work remains if you wish to pick this up.
