i am just not sure how to kill THIS messages which look so....
they dont look like spam, even to me upon first look.

can someone get some medications that will cure those spammers
(8 just not enough, rack on some more ammo, and dont be shy
to call for airstrike)

If you were using SpamAssasin, you wouldn't get these..

if we would not use spamassassin we would have 160+ more
(what is actually more then daily traffic in this list)

Theres no way for me to tell since my spamassassin
removes already inserted headers and then scans+inserts
its own..

I _am_ using SpamAssassin, and I got this.  

Actually, this has turned into a neat example of how to poison a Bayes filter.

The original spam got flagged on my system like this:

X-Spam-Status: No, hits=2.9 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_40,HTML_MESSAGE, 
	RCVD_IN_DYNABLOCK,RCVD_IN_RFCI,RCVD_IN_SORBS autolearn=no version=2.63

So this got through the usual SA rules, none of which give very high
scores, and even the Bayes filter isn't sure.

Then comes your message, with a quote of the original spam:

X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.2 required=5.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham  
	version=2.63

So...my Bayes filter just auto-trained itself on the contents of the
spam message...as ham.  If I now feed the original spam through SA
again, it gets BAYES_01, and a score of -1.5.  Clearly I'm going to be
receiving a _lot_ of these, at least until I batch them all up and feed
them to sa-learn to retrain the Bayes filter.

Folks, if you want to talk about spam on a (non-spam-related) mailing
list, please please please don't quote it, no matter how interesting it
may be.  Or at least, if you do quote it, be sure to include a sentence
or two that contains gratuitous references to the names of chemicals
often used to mitigate the effects of problems that may arise with men
and the organs they use to procreate.

For me, spambayes nailed the original message as spam, and your reply 
(helpfully quoting all of the orginal) was classified as ham.

Personally I still have to see such poisoning on DSPAM, but I'll admit
it's not 100% perfect, only about 99.9% ;^)

While Hans doesn't want to block posts by non-subscribers,
 could a non-subscriber return address be verified
 in the same way as a new subscription is?

ie: If a non-subscriber posts; they get back a letter,
 "We recieved this posting to the Reiserfs List,
  if you want it to appear, just hit reply."

From the list software's point of view
 they are actually subscribing, but with delivery supressed.

Mailman can cope with a subscriber suspending delivery, (for holidays etc)
 it would be a case of jiggering the subscription to happen transparently.

Just another slightly different hoop to trip up the spammers.

As long as it remembers who's already confirmed.  e.g. I read the list
through the gmane mail-news gateway, and don't want to have to confirm
every time I post a message.  If I only need to confirm once, that's
fine.

SpamAssasin is really running out of steam right now, that is why they
have spent quite a bit of effort in developing the 'dspam' package.

It might have a chance at killing most spam.  Some people have their
doubts, but hope springs eternal....

Hello,

Being a sysadmin myself, i tend to find dspam way too complicated to set up
, read too time consuming to get a system up and running. (note that i didn't even tried
it for a Mailing-List setup).

On the other hand, crm114 was a : Read the 8 steps in the FAQ and i was up & running 5 minutes later,
with the shameless advantage of crm114 being already into the Debian package repository :)

So if you're short on time, then i'd advise to look at crm114 first and then dspam if crm114 doesn't fit
your needs.
