Intel has got the obligation to make sure they are not letting you use
not allowed channels. If you as a manufacturer allow with a certain
change to let people use the channels they want, you are actually
encouraging people to use those channels. Letting the option available
makes Intel liable to get sued. If you buy an US PC, you stick to the US
channels. If you are a world traveler, buy the PC in japan or in Europe.
Then, you will be able to use the US and ROW(Rest of World) channels.
This is just the way it works, else you are liable. Believe me, and not
only me. Intel does not do things to give you a hard time, it is because
of a reason and they have the best lawyers at it.
It is just the Law and the FCC's.

I thought that cygwin didn't implement the posix_spawn*() family?
Anyway, we probably _can_ use posix_spawn() in various places, and
especially if that helps windows performance, we should.

Few enough people run "git-apply" on its own. Most people (certainly me)
end up using it through some email-applicator script or other. So the plan
was that the --whitespace=warn/error flag would go there, and that
git-apply by default would work more like "patch".
But hey, I have no strong preferences, and it's easy enough to make the
default be warn (and add a "--whitespace=ok" flag to turn it off).
Personally, I don't mind whitespace that much. In particular, I _suspect_
I often have empty lines like
int i;
i = 10;
where the "empty" line actually has the same indentation as the lines
around it. Is that wrong? Perhaps.

Doesn't having them take a struct rtc_time (which is different from

If the speed of cygwin's fork is an issue then I'd previously suggested
using spawn*. The spawn family of functions were designed to emulate
Windows functions of the same name. They start a new process without
the requirement of forking.
>signals do not work reliably (if at all),
I'm not sure if you're mixing cygwin with windows here but if signals do
not work reliably in Cygwin then that is something that we'd like to
know about. Signals *obviously* have to work fairly well for programs
like ssh, bash, and X to work, however.
Native Windows, OTOH, hardly has any signals at all and deals with
signals in a way that is only vaguely like linux.
>filesystem is slow and locked down, and exec-attribute is NOT really

Again, it's not clear if you're talking about Windows or Cygwin but
under Cygwin, in the default configuration, the exec attribute means the
same thing to cygwin as it does to linux.
As always, if you have questions or problems with cygwin, you can ask in
the proper forum. The available cygwin mailing lists are here:
http://cygwin.com/lists.html.
Would getting git into the cygwin distribution solve any problems with
git adoption on Windows? This would get an automatic green light from
anyone who was interested, if so. Someone would just have to send an
"ITP" (Intent To Package) to the cygwin-apps mailing list and provide a
package using the guidelines here: http://cygwin.com/setup.html .

Ares is a proprietary protocol and they change their signatures (even
the login signatures) with every new version.
AFAIK ipp2p should block the newest version of ares (at least the
login). Traffic shaping does not work at the moment, because ares
encrypts the data connections with an unknown method and without any
good signatures. I will check the newest version of ares this week and
update the ares pattern if needed.
My real job keeps me very busy at the moment (and I have been ill for
three weeks now), but I will try to bring out a new version of ipp2p
with some bug fixes very soon.

If get_next_ra_size() does not grow fast enough, ->prev_page can
overrun the ahead window. This means the caller will read the pages
from ->ahead_start + ->ahead_size to ->prev_page synchronously.

* [Xenomai-core] [PATCH] set VM_RESERVED for remapped mem
From: Jan Kiszka @ 2006-02-26 19:47 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: xenomai-core
[-- Attachment #1.1: Type: text/plain, Size: 508 bytes --]
Hi,
while reviewing my own rtdm_mmap-code again, I noticed that the wrapped
remap_pfn_range() sets VM_RESERVED (+ some other bits) on the passed vma
while the compatibility function remap_page_range() doesn't do this.
This flag seems to exclude the vma from swapping considerations.
Adding the bit to the wrapper appears to me as the best way to catch
this on older kernels. And this should also make the VM_LOCKED setting
obsolete in nucleus/heap.c.
Feel free to correct/enlighten me.

Can this somehow be done in a way so everyone that clones your tree
will inherit the warn/error on whitespace setting?
In this way we make sure it gets enabled automagically in many trees
and I do not have to remember yet another options.
Alternatively something that is enabled for a tree so I only have to do
something once - a trigger maybe?

Thanks I will check on this.

The putenv()-ed string has to exist as long as the environment
does. You can twiddle the environment just by twiddling the
string you registered. What fun!
- I noticed setenv is now in compat/ so I though it was good idea
- to use it.
All uses of putenv() originally were setenv(). I finally realized
a compat/setenv.c was better than playing whack-a-setenv on every
release... (Ah, hindsight.)
Note that the current compat/setenv.c _LEAKS MEMORY_ on purpose.
Because putenv() requires the string to stay around, we can't
ever free it. I hope any library implementing bits of git
(libgitbit?) avoids setting environment variables.
- So the variable is emptied, not removed. But usually empty environment
- variables are treated as if they didn't exist...
More specifically, git treats both "" and NULL as empty, or at
least it did last time I checked.

Seems to have been a temporary problem. Just tested "svn ls
svn://svn.gna.org/svn/xenomai/trunk", and it worked for me.
Still, we are lucky with gna.org. Hosting a project at sourceforge e.g.
is much more stressing (we once had several months downtime for the old
RTnet repos...).

Understood, your response indicated that you would investigate a proper
solution.

AFAICT it's more like trading 3D performance for having audio work at
all. Other video drivers that were too aggressive and caused audio
dropouts (VIA) were fixed, even though there was a slight performance
cost.

You snipped out the interesting parts, which is 1-2 lines before this
(Grepping for Error: should do it)

Argh, /proc abuse... "historical reasons" presumably?

This is due to CONFIG_PCI not being set, which doesn't really
make any sense on x86-64, as there aren't any PCI-less systems
on that platform (With the CPU containing a PCI northbridge, it
doesn't make a lot of sense not to have PCI enabled)
