here (#0001572).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
mjsb - 01-21-06 03:24
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have just recompiled the alsa-kernel driver with ./cofigure
--with-debug=full and discovered using 'option model=test' that it is
possible to have all four combinations:
1) speakers off and HP off
2) speakers off and HP on
3) speakers on and HP off
4) speakers on and HP on
I have tried all models available in the patch_realtek.c but could only
have it working with the 'test' model. None of the other models allowed
me to have 2) working.
The 'In-4 Pin Mode' mutes/unmutes HP,
and 'Front Pin Mode' mutes/unmutes internal speakers.
Doing a 'cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0' in the combinations above I only
get differences in two places. Namely in sections 'Node 0x14' and 'Node
0x1b' for speakers and HP, respectively.
Differences are on a line containing:
Pin-ctls: 0x00: --> when muted (applies to both sections
0x14 and 1x1b)
Pin-ctls: 0xc0: OUT HP --> when unmuted (applies to both sections
0x14 and 1x1b)
I'm uploading two files, one generated with sound from speakers and the
other with sound from HeadPhones, where you can verify this.
If mode information is needed, just ask ;)

I've tried different alsa versions and then models from realtek patch, but
to no avail. Same problems - switching between headphones and laptop
speakers. Option "test" gives the most complete controls, so it seems
other models simply don't match my hardware.
Since it's 10 years last time I coded anything - could somebody point me
in the right direction, I would be more than happy to help.

This works in that if I insert headphones after the driver is loaded, the
speakers are correctly muted, and sound comes from the headphones. If I
remove the headphones, sound comes from the speakers again.
The problem with the above fix is that I end up with both master and
headphone controls in alsamixer. Muting either will mute the headphones
or speakers depending upon which is active. Adjusting the volume of
either also affects both outputs.
Any advice on how to properly avoid the calls that generate the extra
headphone controls for my hardware would be appreciated.

This bug was submited 3 months ago. It would be nice to have some feedback
on its status.
If there are no plans to fix this, please provide an easy way or
documentation on building a custom model for ALC880.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
tiwai - 03-15-06 15:36
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Try the CVS version with "model=lg" option.
I fixed for LG m1 express dual laptop. Hopefully it's the same for yours.

speakers also mutes headphones.

I'm trying to make the CVS sources work, but since its my first time with
alsa-cvs i'm running into some trouble...
1) The file 'toplevel.config' is missing and I dont know how to generate
it (there doesnt seem be be instructions on this subject). Copied from
older tree and compilation was successful (alsa-driver, alsa-lib,
alsa-utils).
2) Loading modules fails. dmesg shows all sorts of 'Unknown symbol'
related with snd_hidden_kcalloc/malloc/zalloc/free, and some other stuff.
No clues at this at the moment.

OK. I managed to compile/install from CVS. (please delete my last
note#0008855)
The new model lg from hda-intel driver does not work on laptop LG LW20
Express:
There is sound from headphones, but no sound from front speakers, never!
So this bug still applies.
The files that I uploaded sometime ago to this bug report should be
helpfull to make sound work on this laptop.

Just tried alsa-driver-1.0.11rc4 and it gives the same results as the CVS
obtained earlier today: Doesnt work :(
The LG LW20 has different pin assignments from the model LG m1.
Using model=test I found that
Green (headphones) = In-4 Pin = 0x1b
Blue (Line-Out) = In-3 Pin = 0x1a
Red (Mic) = In-1 Pin = 0x18
Headphones work on all these jacks if set to HP.
Front speakers work if FrontPin=LineOut=0x14, and volume control works
HDA_CODEC_VOLUME(,0x0c,,)
I'm trying to write up a new model 'lg_lw20' on patch_realtek.c based on
model 'lg' and already have it working, but there is a problem I dont
understand yet. It has the opposite behaviour of the 'lg': speakers work,
but headphones dont.
