No sound on Motorola V300 cellphone

Hi. When I connect my Motorola V300 phone via a USB cable, I'm not able to
get it to play any sounds and alsamixer tells me "No mixer elems found".
More details of this problem can be found at
https://launchpad.net/bugs/61009 . Daniel Chen (crimsun) told me that he
won't have any time to look into this during the current Ubuntu release so
I thought I'd post here.

Is the fix as simple as adding some ID's to a list or is something more
required?

Is there an error message, or silence?

Possibly you have to enable playback somewhere in the phone's menu.

Does recording work?

Silence.

I've looked, but haven't found anything in the menus that looks promising.

I haven't tried it, and I don't have my USB cable at the moment. I'll try
later.
