I just asked Donnie Barnes at redhat to do this a few days ago.  It is
now being mirrored at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/mirrors/ultra

The last time I checked it was not compleatly there yet.  The link is
very slow.

I want to give ultrapenguin a try on my sun4c and sun4m. Is there a
mirror of the ultrapenguin site (sunsite.mff.cuni.cz) where I can get
the latest binaries from?

It's now complete...see the URL above.  Thanks to Jim for pointing out
that we weren't mirroring the right thing.

Are there any plans to have an official RedHat 5 for Sparc, or are
you intending to just let UltraPenguin carry on from where you left
off?

There are a huge number of Sparcs in the commercial world, but they're
unlikely to run Linux without the backing of a visible organisation.
Given that RedHat now has commercial support options available, RedHat
on Linux becomes a viable proposition for those companies that are too
paranoid to try anoything unless they have someone to blame (like mine!)

BTW, Craftworks was apparently prepared to support RedHat 4.2/Sparc
anyway, but whether they'd support UltraPenguin or not, I don't know.

We do intend to have another SPARC release.  It will be 5.1, though,
and will likely be a few weeks after the Intel 5.1 is done.

I'm not sure when *our* release will support the Ultra, though.  We
currently don't have an Ultra in house.

The name you propose is absolutely o.k. IMHO we should all test it
critically and post any probs to the ultralinux list. It seems to me
rather calm there.

Only a stable RH 5.1 for sparc should be released, we should not make
the same mistake as MS does it with windoze95, -98, -01 ???

Please, don't change the name, call it "UltraPenguin - Linux for
Sparcs" or something similiar.

The name Ultra... suggests that it is intended for UltraSparc, and AFAIK
only a small number of the current sparclinux users have the possibility
to get an Ultra workstation, most of us are using sun4c or sun4m arch. 

Until last thursday I also thought the UltraPenguin is intended for the
UltraSparc!!!

Hi Folks,

It is a good idea to promote the UltraPenguin 1.0.9 as the Linux for the 
whole range of Sparc platforms.  The Ultra just means that the 
UltraSparc is now supported IN ADDITION TO the others.  However, as 
Jakub Jelinek wrote in the  intro section of UltraPenguin web pages, he 
couldn't use Sparc in the name, since that is a trademark of Sparc 
International.  S/Linux was a suggestion he made for a generic name.

We can work on getting RedHat a couple of Ultra systems to play with 
sometime after the Linux Expo.
