It's a RBEM56G-100.
Sorry it took me a while to reply - Valdis' patch does fix the problem for
me, too. Awaiting for a final form of the fix in the upcoming series :)

Hi;
I havent tried 2.5.51 vanila, but 2.5.51 with dm-3 patch
is working well so far for me on LVM system. (All other 2.5
kernels tried would hit a BUG()-- already reported.)
If anyone wants me to recommend some sort of stress test
let me know; Ive simpley constructed and populated several
fileystems, md5sum'ed all the files, bzip2'd them, rm'd them,
etc. Then several hours of looping kernel compiles.

running 2.5.51, when I run 'uptime', it shows my uptime+1. that means if my
system is idle, as it usually is, load avg is 1.0 1.0 1.0. starting my
fabolous test program main(){for(;;);}, the load avg climbs up to 2.0.

I applied this to a 2.5.51 kernel with usb and fbcon updated via bk pulls.
Then after rebooting into the new kernel I tried

Am I using kexec correctly? What else can I try? Is there any debug
info I can gather?
One other datum. Without the --append line a kernel booted with kexec hangs when
tring to mount the real root - it cannot find the device.

When we moved some nfs clients from 2.4.18 to 2.4.20, we saw some
performance issues that initially appeared to be an nfs problem.
However, it turned out that the upgrade apparently broke autonegotiation
between the NICs in the nodes and our network switches. This did not
turn up immediately in network testing with tools such as netperf,
because we still had good one-way bandwidth with the nodes set to full
duplex and the switches set to half. However, two-way traffic
immediately caused lots of problems.
I never trust autonegotiation, and turn it off whenever I can.
You may be experiencing a similar problem.

Hello,
I've encountered an extrange behaviour with pthreads in a piece of code
I'm developing for linux 2.4.18-18.8.0 (RH-8.0) glibc-2.2.93
Basically the app is an CORBA servant object (omniORB-4.0 based) that
maps some of the methods of the idl for the object on scripts or
executables.
I've considered POSIX semantics por signal delivery in MT
applications.
The app works this way:
1) SIGCHLD is blocked in main() thread first of all.
2) ORB threads are started (they should inherit SIGCHLD blocked)
3) on a request, one working-thread from the request broker will
eventually call spawn_script()
4) a sigmask with SIGCHLD unblocked is prepared for posterior usage on
pselect()
5) spawn_script() forks. If I am right the fork() from the thread will
create a brand new process with the only execution context of the
calling thread.
6) forked process execve()'s the script (after duping fd0 & 1 on a
pipe)
7) parent thread enters in a pselect() loop to read child's stdout from
the pipe.
8) the exit condition for the loop is raised when pselect() catches
SIGCHLD
The only point where SIGCHLD is unblocked is inside pselect() & calls to
spawn_script() are serialized using a global mutex. So I can ensure that
only the thread inside pselect() has SIGCHLD unblocked, so when the
child exits the notification will arrive to the correct thread on the
parent process. And, in fact, it seemed to work.
The problem is that execve() works only if called from the main()
thread. If called from another thread it blocks forever inside
sigsuspend().
The stack-trace for the process blocked on execve looks like:

There are no blocked signals when calling execve().
I've also tried the non-portable function
pthread_kill_other_threads_np() before execve() but
pthread_kill_other_threads_np() will also block on sigsuspend() with an
obviously similar stack-trace:

I get this same problem in 1.1.3.7 with all experimental patches
applied. I have my C: linked to a real Linux directory,
/var/lib/dosemu/C -- if I try to edit (DOS' edit) anything in the root
directory it says "Edit was unable to access the file 'C:\'", even
though I typed "edit config.sys" in C:\ (it actually does the same thing
in any directory). It also ends up deleting the file I was trying to
open. However, ezedit works fine.
I also get some very strange behavior if I try to save a file. If I
attempt to save to a filename that does not exist, it will ask me if I
want to replace the existing file! If I say yes, it'll give me an error
that it wasn't able to write it, but I still end up with a new filename
named something like "ALCGDCEO." Very odd.
Any ideas?

I got the above error message whenever I run mkinitrd .
The result is that I cannot create a new initrd to boot any newly
compiled modular kernel.
Distribution: RedHat 8.0, all RH publised updates installed.
Kernel: 2.5.51, modules disabled. (Please see attached config file)
CPU: PIII 800, 512MB ram.
Mkinitrd: version 3.4.28

Any user can run the program (file permissions), but only root is
allowed to perform the needed network operations (kernel behavior).

Make sure you're looking at this version of the HOWTO:

There's a much older one still in circulation.
Lots of software isn't in the HOWTO, since it focuses on the basic
transport. The hamsoft database at radio.linux.org.au list a lot of
stuff, though its links are often out of date. Google is your friend,
both for finding unlisted stuff, and for re-locating the lost hamstuff
items. If you're looking for something specific, asking here would be
a good thing to try also.

Rubbish.
Think about what you've just said. Patch level version changes are
things like 2.5.43 to 2.5.44 or 2.4.19 to 2.4.20.
You are saying that we shouldn't change any interfaces between (eg)
2.5.43 and 2.5.44, but we should change every interface we want to
change between 2.4.15 and 2.5.0.
This is obviously completely bogus. 2.5 is a _development_ tree.
Everyone should expect anything, including interfaces to change
between each development patch level.

BSD has a mount_union command which does this, as well as mount_null,
which allows you to effectively mount a filesystem more than once.
I'm not sure how well it works, though, it might only work on some
filesystems.

Ok, I found it out by myself, it is 1514b.
I set up two length matches in the PREROUTING chain in the mangle table, one
set to match on packets >\x1500b and one >\x1501b. The latter rule never
matched so I thought that the max packet really was 1500b. However I then
decided to put all packets matching the first rule in a separate class.
From there the answer was obvious, I simply divided the byte-count with the
packet-count and voila, I got 1514. So I guess the length match doesn't
count for the 14b's of ethernet encap.
This led me to change another thing in my setup, I no longer match small TCP
packets by matching them by <db but rather <Pb.
Well... this prolly seem real newbie like to most of you but hey we all are
at first.

Added some code to block out the error messages for the hoontech cards when someone tries to access the professional/consumer option. I tried to get the information from hoontech but no luck. I don't think it would be that hard to add the correct code to enable these functions but hoontech is not talking unfortunately. Hoontech even stopped responding to my e-mails. The last response I got was "e-mail the alsa-developers". "They have all the information about hoontech cards already."
