Jim,

You can run a 32-bit UML on an AMD 64-bit OS. However, there are some
issues:

1. The guest kernel needs to be compiled on a 32-bit OS. While it will
run on the 64-bit, I haven't had any success with compiling.
2. The host SKAS patch has not yet been ported (publicly) to AMD
64-bit. So your guest kernels will ONLY run in TT mode.

try, please let me know.

  a) Is this with a stock kernel or a gentoo kernel?
     (sorry, but gentoo has a poor reputation for quality control)

  b) can you build a kernel for i386? (no UML)
     This would be a cross-compile build.

  c) are you using an i386 compiler, or and amd64 compiler?
     You will need a cross-compiler!
