Summary:                    Crackly PCM output.
Description: 
When playing a sound through the speakers on Toshiba Tecra 8100 the only
sound produced is noise.

Weird.  What is the output of "ls /proc/asound/card0"?

Maybe my request was not clear.
Please do the following:

1. Load ALSA snd-ymfpci after the fresh boot.
   Dump /proc/asound/card0/ymfpci, lspci -xxxvv.
   (also /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/* files, too)

2. Unload snd-ymfpci, then load OSS ymfpci module.

3. Unload ymfpci, then again load ALSA snd-ymfpci module.
   Dump the same files as 1.
