One more thing, why do not use initializer:
struct mipi_dsi_msg msg = {
.channel = dsi->channel,
.type = MIPI_DSI_SET_MAXIMUM_RETURN_PACKET_SIZE,
.tx_len = sizeof(tx),
.tx_buf = tx
};
