A while ago, Ben added support for Quanta devices that had the display hardware
fused off. We can a bit more general than that by reading the FUSE_STRAP
register and setting num_pipes to 0 when detecting such condition.
To achieve that, the intel_device_info structure in dev_priv needed to be made
writable, that's patch 1.
Patches 2 to 5 build the support for reading out FUSE_STRAP on IVB+, client
platforms only to detect both "display fused off" and "pipe C fused off"
configurations.
Patch 6 removes the Quanta special-case with the (reasonable) hope that it's
now covered by the DISPLAY_DISABLE bit.
Patch 7 is a bonus, somewhat unrelated, little clean-up patch.
This series is not tested due to lack of such a device, I was hoping Ben still
had the device around somewhere and could give this series a go.

Turns out it'd be nice to change some device information at run-time or
simply have some code to fill in the info struct instead of having to
declare the values in 30+ structures.
What prompted this change is handling fused out display/pipe and
tweaking num_pipes at run-time, but I'm quite sure we'll find other
flags/limits to stick into dev_priv->info.

And rename it to num_planes to match num_pipes.
This limit lives with num_pipes really, and now that dev_priv->info is
writable we can put it there instead.
While at it, introduce a intel_device_info_runtime_init() where we'll be
able to gather the device info fields at run-time.

FUSE_STRAP has a bit to inform us that the display has been fused off.
Use it to setup the definitive number of pipes at run-time.

We now read out the FUSE_STRAP register, looking for configurations with
display fused off. Let's remove the Quanta special case and rely on the
programmed fuses to set num_pipes to 0.
This patch is untested.

I'm an idiot and relied on auto-completion that completed num_ to
num_planes instead of num_pipes... v2 to follow...

Patches look fine. Just relying on fuse registers being correct is like
relying on vbt being correct, fraught with anxiety.

FUSE_STRAP has a bit to inform us that the display has been fused off.
Use it to setup the definitive number of pipes at run-time.
v2: actually tweak num_pipes, not num_planes

Starting from IVB, pipe C can be fused off. We have yet to see such
configuration in the wild though (ie not tested).
v2: Actually tweak num_pipes, not num_planes.

Well, I believe those bits are directly reflecting the fuses/straps
programmed (the sames that will actually disable hw), so it should be
better than VBT. On the other hand, that's the reason why I only check
from IVB on and not from ILK to not take unecessary risks on platforms
with no known fused config.
In any case, if someone with such a device could test the series :)

I'm surprised by this. We had a semi-lengthy mail on the matter
internally, and ISTR there was no way to actually make this work for all
cases. I guess I need to go re-read that.

IMHO the patches can't be merged until it can be verified. If you want
to call that a nak-until-then on patch 6, do. I'd much rather have a
dynamic solution like this though.

Oh? I must have missed it or it wasn't broadcasted. Mind digging out the
thread again?

Yes, of course! (I'd like to have the writable info in any case).
