intel_dp_compute_num_joined_pipes() to be a bit more specfic?
Or even just intel_dp_num_joined_pipes()?

I think that could be simplified to just:
{
if (force_joined_pipes)
return force_joined_pipes;
if (need_bigjoiner())
return 2;
return 1;
}
Apart from that this looks good.
