I HAD A PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE MESSAGE REFUSED Umm, no need to shout. AFAIK vger doesn't have any spam filtering. Have just run mxverify on harkal@gmx.net and that seems ok - although it may be an ECN issue. I know vger will drop people if the mailserver is down. http://www.tux.org/lkml/#s3-14 I'd recommend Harry resubscribe. It's happened to me before when my mail servers were upgraded and fscked for a bit. HTH Paul ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

I just think that vger is tring a "new" spam filter. I got an e-mail from the mailman saying not to send mails with Chinese in order not to get cut at the SPAM filter!!!!!. 1) Do I send Chinese at the list? Cause if I do, I should write it down to my resume! 2) What is the logic in cutting off Chinese? Chinese==SPAM? Interesting! Anyway I'll see what I can do! Cause if I do, I should write it down Ah it'll be your default reply string which is in greek: Ten Tri <date> stis, ... egrapsie If my greek transliteration is correct. Try sending a reply with out the greek characters in. It must be recognising you're using unicode/higher ascii/whatever and has a check for this which it assumes is an asian character set. > > to my resume! > 2) What is the logic in cutting off Chinese? Chinese==SPAM? Interesting! All the vger lists are english language discussions. Paul ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread

I HAD A PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE MESSAGE REFUSED > > Umm, no need to shout. Evidently, there was! I had a message erroneously rejected as spam and sent a query about it (the text attachment) on October 1, along with a zipped copy of the notice, itself (the attached zip file). I have no idea who maintains this site (is it you?), but something indicated that questions like these should be addressed to "Majordomo-Owner@vger.kernel.org", so that's what I did. I never got a response. I've been corresponding with Harry and didn't notice that his end wasn't appearing in the mailing list, nor did anyone else ask why I was replying to apparently-phantom messages. or, for that matter, why Harry seemed to be suddenly silent. Harry, of course, had no way of notifying the mailing list of his problem because all of his messages were being refused as spam. It looks like my shouting (at least indirectly) got Harry back on the mailing list, and we'll all benefit from that. > AFAIK vger doesn't have any spam filtering. There's one *somewhere*; see my attachments and Harry's message about his Greek character set. Attached is FailureNotice.zip, which contains a message I received from my mailer daemon. It indicates that you rejected the message because it was (incorrectly) thought to be SPAM or an Outlook virus. In case you can't (or won't) check the attachments, one is plain text and the other contains raw binary packets from a tcp dump. Although the body and the octet-stream-attachment contain the letters "aich-tee-tee-pee" (I don't dare type them literally), neither is an actual web page. If you don't believe me, ask Harry Kalogirou <harkal@gmx.net>. What, exactly, triggered your filter, and what can I do about it?
