To deal with the points I think you're looking for...
1. ELKS has been bootable for at least the last three years.
2. ELKS currently has SLIP access over a null modem cable to another
computer, so can be indirectly connected to the Internet. One of
the developers put a system running ELKS on the Internet as a
static web server for his network a while back, and there wasn't
any noticable speed difference between that and the web server on
his Linux box on the same ethernet system.
3. ELKS does NOT currently have support for any ethernet cards, but
support for the NE1000 and NE2000 cards is under development, and
possibly also for other cards.
4. I am not the person to ask about applications under ELKS. That is
better asked on the ELKS development list, which I have CC'd this
email to. Somebody on there can better answer this question.
