All the Compaq Presario's are in danger without ACPI. This is confirmed by new
HP. (They d'ont feel to be responcible as always in certain companies. Make
something, sell it and then so0rry c'ant help you)

When will companies like Suse, RedHat, Mandrake etc. do something about it?

Ruud,

I don't think this is correct. Your Presario is not going to
burn up because you don't use ACPI. I'm almost certain that
the laptops have temperature sensing circuitry that will trip
when the processor reaches a critical temperature, allowing the
laptop to poweroff before any damage can occur.

Of course, using ACPI will give you more graceful control of
this situation. If you have received any communication from HP
to the contrary, please forward it to me and I will investigate.

Regards,
John
