* [PATCH] ARM: multi_v7_defconfig: Select CONFIG_USB_ONBOARD_DEV as built-in

Selecting CONFIG_USB_ONBOARD_DEV as a module may cause the following
run-time error when probing a USB2514 hub on a imx6q-udoo board:

usb 1-1: device not accepting address 5, error -71
usb usb1-port1: unable to enumerate USB device

Fix this issue by selecting CONFIG_USB_ONBOARD_DEV as built-in so
that the USB hub reset line and clock can be activated earlier.

Paolo,

I may miss a bunch of details here (as I still remember some change_pte
patches previously on the list..), however not sure whether we considered
enable it?  Asked because I remember Andrea used to have a custom tree
maintaining that part:

Maybe it can't be enabled for some reason that I overlooked in the current
tree, or we just decided to not to?

Is that not a fix to 0bb36055c049 ("ARM: imx_v6_v7_defconfig: Select
CONFIG_USB_ONBOARD_HUB")?

The rename seems to be older in the history of linux-next.

The onboard_usb_hub driver has been updated to support non-hub devices,
which has led to some renaming. Update to the new name accordingly.
    
Update to the new name (ONBOARD_USB_DEV) accordingly.

Based on similar fixes done by Javier Carrasco for other defconfigs.

There are 375 + 256 additions for testing module and the documentation
update in the last two patches, and there is 198 additions and 176
deletions for moving the page fragment allocator from page_alloc into
its own file in patch 1.
Without above number, there are above 600+ additions and 300+ deletions,
deos that seems reasonable considering 140+ additions are needed to for
the new API, 300+ additions and deletions for updating the users to use
the new API as there are many users using the old API?

Some benefits I see for now:
1. Improve the maintainability of page frag's implementation:
   (1) future bugfix and performance can be done in one place.
       For example, we may able to save some space for the
       'page_frag_cache' API user, and avoid 'get_page()' for
       the old 'page_frag' API user.

   (2) Provide a proper API so that caller does not need to access
       internal data field. Exposing the internal data field may
       enable the caller to do some unexpcted implementation of
       its own like below, after this patchset the API user is not
       supposed to do access the data field of 'page_frag_cache'
       directly[Currently it is still acessable from API caller if
       the caller is not following the rule, I am not sure how to
       limit the access without any performance impact yet].

2. page_frag API may provide a central point for netwroking to allocate
   memory instead of calling page allocator directly in the future, so

For micro-benchmark ko added in this patchset, performance gain seems quit

Hi Tao,

Using a DT label in this way is not how connections should be
described in device tree, The association needs to be between the
input and output ports of the component not and extra link back to the
source.

If your "funnel"  has multiple input and output ports, then it is no
longer a funnel.  As you describe it - the input ports are statically
associated with an output port, so the device is effectively a set of
individual funnels.
Given that the association between the inputs and outputs is known at
time of compilation - then these can be inferred from the components
compatible string and handled internally during driver probe.

This component should therefore really have its own driver, and not be
described as a standard  funnel. In this way you can handle the input
and output associations within the driver and create a path in the
normal way, avoiding the need for large changes to the coresight API.
Having a specific driver will allow creation of sets of associated
input and output connections.

Add support for TPS65224 regulators (bucks and LDOs) to TPS6594 driver as
they have significant functional overlap. TPS65224 PMIC has 4 buck
regulators and 3 LDOs. BUCK12 can operate in dual phase.
The output voltages are configurable and are meant to supply power to the
main processor and other components.

TPS65224 is a Power Management IC with 4 Buck regulators and 3 LDO
regulators, it includes additional features like GPIOs, watchdog, ESMs
(Error Signal Monitor), and PFSM (Pre-configurable Finite State Machine)
managing the state of the device.

In addition TPS65224 has support for 12-bit ADC and does not have RTC
unlike TPS6594.

In regmap_config use volatile_table instead of volatile_reg. This change

Extend TPS6594 PMIC register and field definitions to support TPS65224
power management IC.

TPS65224 is software compatible to TPS6594 and can re-use many of the
same definitions, new definitions are added to support additional
controls available on TPS65224.

This series modifies the existing TPS6594 drivers to add support for the
TPS65224 PMIC device that is a derivative of TPS6594. TPS65224 has a
similar register map to TPS6594 with a few differences. SPI, I2C, ESM,
PFSM, Regulators and GPIO features overlap between the two devices.

TPS65224 is a Power Management IC (PMIC) which provides regulators and
other features like GPIOs, Watchdog, Error Signal Monitor (ESM) and
Pre-configurable Finite State Machine (PFSM). The SoC and the PMIC can
communicate through the I2C or SPI interfaces. The PMIC TPS65224
additionally has a 12-bit ADC.

TPS65224 Register definitions:
This patch adds macros for register field definitions of TPS65224
to the existing TPS6594 driver.  

Core description:
I2C and SPI interface protocols are implemented, with and without
the bit-integrity error detection feature (CRC mode).

PFSM description:
Strictly speaking, PFSM is not hardware. It is a piece of code.
PMIC integrates a state machine which manages operational modes.
Depending on the current operational mode, some voltage domains
remain energized while others can be off.
PFSM driver can be used to trigger transitions between configured
states.

Regulators description:
4 BUCKs and 3 LDOs.
BUCK12 can be used in dual-phase mode.

Pinctrl description:
TPS65224 family has 6 GPIOs. Those GPIOs can also serve different
functions such as I2C or SPI interface or watchdog disable functions.
The driver provides both pinmuxing for the functions and GPIO capability.
