Hi all,
I have i-Tec USB Dongle with Broadcom chip connected
to my notebook with Debian Woody. I am able to
establish bluetooth connection to my Siemens S55
mobile. After I start pppd for GPRS access to Internet
I get connected. I can ping any server for as long as
I want. But when I open any web page under Konqueror
or try ping -f, after couple of seconds (10-20) I
loose connection. First I see bluetooth going away on
mobil display, then gprs disconnect and after a minute
pppd finds it out too. Any suggestions where to look ?
I tried it with several notebooks, usb bluetooth
devices and mobiles and only this i-Tec USB Dongle
makes troubles. Under Windows XP it works without a
problem.
Thank you a lot

this can be a dongle problem, because the dongle contains a Broadcom
chip and we already know that under some weird circumstances this is
buggy. But actually I think that your PPP setting are not correct for a
GPRS dialin. Check the some GPRS+PPP HOWTO's.
If you really want to be sure that this is no Bluetooth problem you must
run "hcidump -w <file>" as root and send us the resulting dump file.

Marcel

now it is very strange waht I see. First I tried some
experiments with uhci, uhci(je) and ohci, nothing
helped. Then I tried hcidump -w and I was able to surf
half an hour without a problem !!! Then I restarted a
computer, surfing worked, but I was aborted after
several minutes. Now I have hcidump output I hope you
will find something there. And another thing - when I
restart my notebook, I have to restart bluez-utils and
bluez-sdp before I can connect, otherwise pppd doesn't
connect with /dev/rfcomm0:connection refused. I even
attach my ppp chatscript and peer config files.
Any help ?
Thank you

after getting the full dump the important part is this
> ACL data: handle 0x0006 flags 0x01 dlen 10
L2CAP(d): cid 0x40 len 329 [psm 3]
RFCOMM(d): UIH: cr 0 dlci 2 pf 1 ilen 323 fcs 0x5c
> HCI Event: Disconn Complete(0x05) plen 4

It is not a PPP error, because the remote device (your phone)
disconnects the ACL link with "LMP Response Timeout" error. Actually
this is because the Broadcom dongle has a buggy link manager or your
phone needs a firmware update. However this is a firmware problem in one
of your two device and we can actually do nothing to fix it.

Now a question I hate to ask : How can it work under
XP ? It works there without a problem.

Hi Marian,

I think it uses another MTU on L2CAP level or the granting of credits on
the RFCOMM layer is done in another way which actually may results in a
slower connection, but also may not causes a link manager problem.
The point is that the phone detects a LMP response timeout, so I would
say that the phone works correct and the dongle has the problem. But
without a protocol analyser that can sniff LMP I can't tell you anything
more. Try to buy a CSR based dongle and see if the problem still exists.

Hi everybody,
Is there anybody out there who can point me to the
right direction, how to implement bluetooth network
between Debian and WXP ? I have found several
fragments of information, but nothing complete.
Thank you a lot.

It depends on BT software you use on XP.
Check out pand and dund daemons
