Thanks for the update. Has there been any work on the website updating what
works and what doesn't?

What website do you specifically refer to? If you mean
'http://decstation.unix-ag.org/', then that's notoriously out of date.
But Karel does a pretty good job maintaining his site -- see
'http://www.xs4all.nl/~vhouten/mipsel/'.

Hello,
I was curious about the DECstation 5000/133 and a graphical console.

Which model Du you have? I am actively using Linux/MIPS on a DECstation
5000/150 (although not with a bleeding-edge kernel), and it works rather
well for me.

The system should be fine -- basically all I/O ASIC based systems should
work, though not all devices have been supplied with drivers yet.
You should be able to use X11 with an XF86_FBDev Xserver on a PMAG-B (CX)
or a PMAGB-B (HX) display adapter (I wasn't able to try myself so far
though). For other display adapters, the answer is either "not yet" or
"no way".

I had X4 with framebuffer running on my DECstation with a PMAGB-B
framebuffer. However, seems there were some threading problems (which
might exist because the lack of ll/sc...).
However, graphic was functional, but I haven't switched on that box for
three months or so. I'm currently moving to an other city (well, quite a
smallish town)...

Well, I've copied and pasted the URL as is from my web client. You may
get to the page from 'http://decstation.unix-ag.org/people/' as well.

Thank you for your information. I was unsure since the website that I was
reading for information was very much out of date.
Keep up the good work!

Either sysmips (ouch) or the emulation should handle them. There may be
bugs, however...

I'm on the way to getting appropriate monitor adapter cables, so I may
finally be able to access consoles.

Graphical console on PMAG-B and PMAGB-B works fine.
X works in principle, too, i.e. you get graphical output and you can
use the mouse (with the help of gpm's repeater mode), but the keyboard
support within X is broken.

I've only got one DEC monitor cable (and I can't find it currently, I'm
moving...), but maybe I can ask around in a university nearby if there
are DECstations going their last way out, then I'll send you an original
cable...

Well... Some keys are functional, some are not, and some are better to
never press... I've tried to understand how X handles the keyboard one
evening, but I badly failed to understand all those mappings and layouts
and so on:-(

A fix is on my to-do list -- hopefully to be done just after the current
task. There is a long-standing bug in the generic keyboard handling code.
After fixing it and then the LK driver (which cannot be fixed now because
of the bug), you'll be able to use LK mappings included in the X11
distribution. It was discussed here earlier this year.
