Please push these to Linus ASAP, it is breaking the x86-64 allyesconfig
build upstream right now.

Well, I am still using the infradead.org repo. I will start using the

Hi James,
After merging the scsi tree, today's linux-next build (powerpc
ppc64_defconfig) failed like this:
drivers/ata/sata_svw.c: In function 'k2_sata_proc_open':
drivers/ata/sata_svw.c:327:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'PDE' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]

Caused by commit 343ac4b031a7 ("[SCSI] sata_svw: convert to scsi proc_ops").
I have used the scsi tree from next-20120322 for today.

* linux-next: manual merge of the mfd tree with Linus' tree

To: Samuel Ortiz
Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Benoit Cousson, Felipe Balbi,

Hi Samuel,
Today's linux-next merge of the mfd tree got a conflict in
drivers/mfd/twl-core.c between commits 5769089ac725 ("mfd: twl-core.c:
Fix the number of interrupts managed by twl4030"), 75294957be1d
("irq_domain: Remove 'new' irq_domain in favour of the ppc one") and
964dba283439 ("devicetree: Add empty of_platform_populate() for !
CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS (sparc)") from Linus' tree and commits 9e1786202704
("mfd: Make twl-core not depend on pdata->irq_base/end") and 78518ffa08fc
("mfd: Move twl-core IRQ allocation into twl[4030|6030]-irq files") from
the mfd tree.
I *think* that the right thing to do is to use the version from the mfd
tree ...
I do wonder why I only got this now (in the merge window) ...

Additionally, I am the author and maintainer of that driver and I don't
remember ever being CCed on that patch ... or did I miss it ?

* linux-next: build failure after merge of the moduleh tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-03-23 4:51 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Paul Gortmaker; +Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Alex Deucher, Dave Airlie, Linus
[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 1563 bytes --]
Hi Paul,
After merging the moduleh tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) failed like this:
drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/si_blit_shaders.c:252:1: error: implicit declaration of function 'BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/si_blit_shaders.c:252:1: error: initializer element is not constant
Caused by commit 48c0c902e2e6 ("drm/radeon/kms: add support for CP setup
on SI") from Linus' tree interacting with commit 6c03438edeb5 ("kernel.h:
doesn't explicitly use bug.h, so don't include it").
ARRAY_SIZE in kernel.h uses __must_be_array from compiler{-ggc,-intel}.h
which uses BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO ... I don;t know if we want to include
bug.h in compiler.h ...
So, for today, I have added the following patch:
From: Stephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au>
Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2012 15:47:07 +1100
Subject: [PATCH] kernel.h: using ARRAY_SIZE needs to include bug.h

* linux-next: Tree for Mar 23
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2012-03-23 6:23 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-next; +Cc: LKML
[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 45171 bytes --]
Hi all,
Reminder: please do not add stuff destined for v3.5 to linux-next
included trees/branches until after v3.4-rc1 has been released.
Changes since 20120322:
Lots of conflicts move between trees and disappear as things are merged
into Linus' tree.
The ceph tree lost its build failure.
The scsi tree gained a build failure do I used the version from
next-20120322.
The isci tree gained a build failure do I used the version from
next-20120322.
The battery tree still had its build failure so I used the version from
next-20120314.
The mfd tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.
The drivers-x86 tree lost its build failure.
The moduleh tree gained a build failure for which I applied a patch.
The akpm tree lost lots of patches that turned up elsewhere (mostly in
Linus' tree).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.
Below is a summary of the state of the merge.
We are up to 187 trees (counting Linus' and 25 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.
Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.
Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.
There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

You missed it ... I added you and Jeff for automatic cc's when the
commit hit the scsi tree.

That's defined in linux/proc_fs.h
What was the config? Was it a no-PROCFS config, or is this just
something that needs to be explicitly included?

Allright, Mar 22, that's yesterday (.au time)... that's a short time
between notifying the maintainer and going into -next :-) No biggie,
I'll have a look next week, it's just annoying to get build failure
reports from Stephen about drivers I own for patches I never heard
about ...
Cheers,

Yes, sorry ... it's one of those large all or nothing type series that
touches about 33 different drivers (about 75% of which are
unmaintained).
I would have checked the ppc compile if I still had a working ppc
machine. Having looked through the code, I think this is the fix ...
could someone check?

See above, that was a powerpc ppc64_defconfig. It certainly has PROCFS
enabled. Almost everything needs to be explicitly included - see Rule 1
in Documentation/SubmitChecklist ...
Implicit includes are vulnerable to CONFIG changes and
architecture/platform differences in the include files. I have seen lots
of these. :-(

That's correct.
I have a for-next-merge branch where I usually have the merge conflicts with
Linus tree fixed, in case you're interested.
> I do wonder why I only got this now (in the merge window) ...
I got a pull request from Benoit a couple days before the merge window opened.
Then I realized part of the pull request contained a merge of one of Grant's
branch. So I wanted to wait for Grant's code to get in before picking the mfd
work on top of it. I didn't want to send a pull request to Linus with a merge
point for something that would have been already merged. Maybe I was wrong,
you tell me.
Cheers,
Samuel.

I'm amused to notice that your merging process is as impatient as akpm,
and just cannot wait for Mel to remove lumpy reclaim from mm/vmscan.c.
It has chosen to do so itself, by duplicating Konstantin's "mm: forbid
lumpy-reclaim in shrink_active_list()" (we had expected that to be held
back, but it's gone in anyway, oh well) into shrink_inactive_list(),
overriding the set_reclaim_mode() a few lines above with a spurious
reset_reclaim_mode(sc).
I expect that will sort itself out automatically once you get an update
from akpm, but something to beware of meanwhile (probably just a matter
of deleting Konstantin's patch from your trove now it's in Linus's tree).
Corrective patch below for illustration, but would need to be applied
with care: I wouldn't be surprised if it chose to do exactly the wrong
thing when applied automatically.

Thanks Stephen,
Too bad the radeon commits weren't in linux-next, then we'd not
have to be fixing these in the merge window...
I think it makes sense for me to fold this into:

Except that this file does not exist in your tree currently, so you would
have to merge Linux' tree first (and put this in the merge commit). It's
probably better to just mention this to Linus when you request the pull
(along with the one in fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.h).

This patch fixes drivers that use device_prep_slave_sg() and
device_prep_dma_cyclic() interfaces and have been missed during the initial
release of interface changing patches.
This patch is based on linux-next-20120322 code tree.

To be more specific, it was a patch series that was never CC'd to ANY
