Subject: [PATCH v2] mac80211: don't use interface indices in drivers
Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2007 21:15:04 +0100 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <1197404104.6558.3.camel@johannes.berg> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <1196849900.4121.4.camel@johannes.berg> (sfid-20071205_101838_959371_6E84D3F8)
This patch gets rid of the if_id stuff where possible in favour of
a new per-virtual-interface structure "struct ieee80211_vif". This
structure is located at the end of the per-interface structure and
contains a variable length driver-use data area.
This has two advantages:
* removes the need to look up interfaces by if_id, this is better
for network namespaces and performance
* allows drivers to store and retrieve per-interface data without
having to allocate own lists/hash tables
